This history is something we are all a ected by as we are all treaty people
in Canada. We all have a shared history to re ect on, and each of us is
a ected by this history in di erent ways. Our past de nes our present, but
if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to de ne
our future.

The Great Debate
Get into like groups.
Fill your Wipeboard with arguments why your model
is the one.
Carousel to see other arguments.
Prepare to debate!
TinkerCad
Go to [Link] and create a personal account.
Search for a project called “Not the Greatest House”
or Iain Brodie and look through my projects to nd it.
Assuming you nd it, could you please help me to:
• Join the roof to the house
• Add some details to the house
• Maybe put on some solar panels
• The roof is good for a snowy alpine climate, please
modify it for a more temperate climate
• It would be nice to have neighbours

TinkerCad
You can create your own house if you cannot nd
the project. Mine looks like this:

Examples of coding for your lessons
• Modelling of real life things

• Music

• Arts and Crafts

• Dance

• Making games
Models of Real Things
Malaria: [Link]
Contagion - now with death: [Link]
projects/376700099/
Virus Growth: [Link]
206618251/

These are all biology related. You can model anything

you want with some work and imagination, e.g.,
mutations for real or Pokémon; a ball rolling down hills
(complex - [Link]
editor/); 100 flips of a coin.
1. Play with a few of these to see what they are doing
and what data they are giving you.
2. Creating a model is not a short task, but it is a very
engrossing one. The contagion and virus models kept
us busy for close to two full classes.
3. What other things could you model?
Music
Aleatoric music: [Link]
423180507/
Music can be generated randomly - really -
some composers made a carp tonne of money
this way.
You can also program ‘normal’ music to be
played in Scratch using the music extension -
right next to the pen extension.
Play.
Arts and Crafts
Quilting: [Link]
324312645/
This program was created to help find pleasing
random quilt patterns that could actually be
quilted for real. It uses the simple square cut
into two isosceles triangles motif. Look at some
other quilting motifs and see if you can simulate
them either with purpose and planning or by
chance.
Dance
Check out all of the projects that are available
for coding dance: [Link]
studios/2929184/

[Link] a look through and find inspiration.

[Link] about not only a presentation of a

dance, but the generation of simple dance
steps created by a computer for a human to
do.
Creating Games
Go to [Link] and look at
their tutorials.
Think about how you could use these tutorials
to have students demonstrate their
understanding and application of curriculum
through this medium.
Play.
Play some more.
Planning coding for your lessons
• Find a cool program for your students to play with and modify

• [Link]

• Brainstorm all the connections, curriculum and topical, you

can think of and note them. (I use a mind map, you can use
that or anything else that helps you nd possibilities)

• You could stop there and pick and choose, or go further and
write out your ideas in enough detail that you can deliver them
as lessons later, or … you could write a series of lessons and
turn it into a unit.

Think
• Would you like to be a Micro:bit expert?

• Would you like to have extensive experience using

Scratch Cards?

• Would you like to learn how to program a robot?

• Would you like to create a unit, review an online

resource, create a Starting With x guide?

• Would you like to look into Making and/or become

great at TinkerCad?

• Would you like to plan/write a whole integrated unit for

your practicum, your future class?

• You have the time. Personalize your learning.
