PART 1: APPLICATION WRITING
1. Application for Permission to Form a Debating Club
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name] [Write the address]
Subject: Application for permission to form a Debating Club.
Sir, With due respect, we, the students of your reputed college, beg to state that debating is a
very useful activity for students. It helps us develop confidence, logical thinking, and the power
of speaking in public. Unfortunately, our college does not have any debating club. As a result,
our talents remain hidden and we cannot take part in inter-college debate competitions.
We have decided to form a debating club named “College Debating Club” to practise debate on
various topics regularly. This club will help us build our personality, improve our knowledge of
current affairs, and represent our college in different competitions.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to grant us permission to form the
club and provide a room and a little fund for its activities.
Yours obediently, On behalf of the students [Write your class and section]
2. Application for Permission to Organise a Debate Competition (Bitorko
Sangha)
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name]
Subject: Application for permission to organise an inter-class debate competition.
Sir, We, the students of your college, beg to state that a debating society (Bitorko Sangha) can
play a vital role in building the personality of students. It sharpens our reasoning power and
removes our fear of speaking before an audience.
We want to organise an inter-class debate competition on current issues among the students of
different classes. We have already formed a small committee to arrange the programme, but we
need your kind permission, a suitable hall, a microphone, and some prizes for the winners.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to grant us permission and extend
your cooperation to make the programme successful.
Yours obediently, On behalf of the students [Write your class and section]
3. Application for a Multimedia Classroom
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name]
Subject: Application for introducing a multimedia classroom.
Sir, We, the students of your college, beg to state that in this age of science and technology,
teaching with the help of multimedia (projector, computer, and internet) makes lessons easier,
more interesting, and long-lasting in memory. But our college still follows only the traditional
chalk-and-board method, which often fails to make difficult topics clear to us.
If a multimedia classroom is introduced, teachers will be able to use images, videos, and
animations to explain lessons, which will increase our interest in study and improve our
results.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to take necessary steps to set up at
least one multimedia classroom in our college.
Yours obediently, On behalf of the students [Write your class and section]
4. Application for Permission and Financial Help for a Study Tour
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name]
Subject: Application for permission and financial help for a study tour.
Sir, We, the students of your college, beg to state that a study tour helps students gain practical
knowledge which cannot be learnt from books alone. It also creates a scope for recreation and
mutual understanding among students and teachers.
We want to arrange a study tour to [write a place, e.g. Cox’s Bazar / Sundarbans] during the
upcoming vacation. As most of us come from poor families, we cannot bear the entire cost of
the tour by ourselves.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to grant us permission for the tour
and provide some financial help from the college fund.
Yours obediently, On behalf of the students [Write your class and section]
5. Application for Permission to Form an English Language Club
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name]
Subject: Application for permission to form an English Language Club.
Sir, We, the students of your college, beg to state that English is an international language and a
compulsory subject in our examination, but most of us are weak in spoken and written English
due to a lack of practice.
If an English Language Club is formed, students will get the opportunity to practise
conversation, debate, recitation, and writing in English regularly, which will remove our fear of
the subject and improve our results.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to grant us permission to form the
club and provide a room along with a teacher advisor to guide us.
Yours obediently, On behalf of the students [Write your class and section]
6. Application for Establishing a Computer Lab
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name]
Subject: Application for establishing a computer lab.
Sir, We, the students of your college, beg to state that computer education has become an
essential part of modern life. Without basic computer knowledge, it is very hard to get a good
job or to continue higher studies nowadays. Unfortunately, our college has no computer lab, so
we cannot get any hands-on training.
If a computer lab with a sufficient number of computers and an instructor is established, we
will be able to learn word processing, internet browsing, and other necessary computer skills.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to take immediate steps to set up a
computer lab in our college.
Yours obediently, On behalf of the students [Write your class and section]
7. Application for Relief for the Flood-Affected People (to the Deputy
Commissioner)
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Deputy Commissioner [Write your district name]
Subject: Application for relief for the flood-affected people.
Sir, I, on behalf of the people of [write your area/village name], beg to state that our area has
been badly affected by the recent flood. Hundreds of houses have been washed away, crops
have been destroyed, and thousands of people have become homeless. Many families are now
living on the roadside without food, pure drinking water, or medicine, and are suffering from
various water-borne diseases.
Under the circumstances, I request you, on behalf of the flood-affected people, to send relief
materials such as food, safe water, medicine, and clothes to our area as early as possible.
I, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to take necessary steps to save the
helpless flood victims.
Yours faithfully, [Write your name] On behalf of the flood-affected people
8. Application for a Seat in the College Hostel
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name]
Subject: Application for a seat in the college hostel.
Sir, I beg most respectfully to state that I am a student of [write your class] in your college. My
village home is far away from the college, and I have to travel a long distance every day, which
disturbs my study a lot. Besides, staying at a distant place makes it difficult for me to attend
extra classes and the college library regularly.
Under the circumstances, I shall be highly benefited if I can get a seat in the college hostel,
where I can stay and continue my study with proper attention and discipline.
I, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to grant me a seat in the hostel.
Yours obediently, [Write your name, class, and roll]
9. Application for Arranging Extra Classes before the Examination
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name]
Subject: Application for arranging extra classes before the examination.
Sir, We, the students of [write your class], beg to state that our HSC examination is approaching
very soon, but a large portion of the syllabus in some subjects is still left uncovered due to the
limited number of class hours in the routine.
We are very anxious about our result and feel that we need extra classes after college hours to
complete the syllabus properly and to clear our doubts through practice tests.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to arrange some extra classes for us
before the examination begins.
Yours obediently, On behalf of the students [Write your class and section]
10. Application for Improving the College Canteen
Date: [Write today’s date]
The Principal [Write your college name]
Subject: Application for improving the facilities of the college canteen.
Sir, We, the students of your college, beg to state that the college canteen is in a very poor
condition. The food served there is often stale and unhygienic, the price is comparatively high,
and the seating arrangement is not enough for all the students during the tiffin period.
As most of us cannot go home during college hours, we have to depend on this canteen for our
daily snacks. Poor quality food is harming our health and unnecessarily wasting our money.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you will be kind enough to take necessary steps to improve
the quality of food, reduce the price, and arrange proper seating in the canteen.
Yours obediently, On behalf of the students [Write your class and section]
PART 2: REPORT WRITING
1. Food Adulteration
Food Adulteration: A Threat to Public Health
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: Food adulteration has become a burning problem in
our country. Unscrupulous traders mix harmful chemicals like formalin, textile colour, and
carbide with fish, fruits, vegetables, and other food items to make more profit and to keep them
fresh for a longer time.
According to a recent survey, almost every food item available in the market is adulterated to
some extent. As a result, people are suffering from various fatal diseases like cancer, kidney
failure, and liver damage. Children are the worst victims of this poison, as their immune
systems are not yet fully developed.
Although the government has a Pure Food Ordinance and mobile courts are conducting drives
against adulteration, the practice has not stopped completely due to a lack of strict monitoring
and the greed of dishonest businessmen.
Experts opine that strict enforcement of the law, public awareness, and exemplary punishment
of the culprits can save the nation from this silent killer.
2. Road Accident
Road Accidents: An Alarming Issue
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: Road accidents have become a common and alarming
phenomenon in Bangladesh. Every day, newspapers carry reports of fatal road accidents that
claim many precious lives and leave many others crippled for life.
Reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs, lack of fitness of vehicles, poor condition
of roads, and disobedience of traffic rules are the main causes behind this problem. Untrained
drivers and the practice of overtaking also add to the risk.
According to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, thousands of people die in road
accidents every year, and the number is increasing day by day. Many families lose their only
earning member, which pushes them into further poverty and suffering.
To reduce this loss of lives, strict enforcement of traffic rules, proper training for drivers, fitness
tests for vehicles, and public awareness are urgently needed.
3. Drug Addiction
Drug Addiction among the Young Generation
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: Drug addiction has turned into a serious social
problem, especially among the young generation of our country. A recent study shows that a
large number of teenagers and young adults are getting addicted to drugs like yaba, heroin, and
phensedyl every year.
Frustration, unemployment, curiosity, bad company, family conflict, and the easy availability of
drugs are identified as the main reasons behind this addiction. Once addicted, young people
gradually lose interest in study and work, and many of them get involved in crimes like theft
and mugging to manage money for drugs.
Law enforcement agencies have intensified their drives against drug dealers, but the supply of
drugs has not stopped completely due to the involvement of influential people in this trade.
Concerned citizens think that combined efforts of the family, society, and the government,
along with proper rehabilitation of the addicted, can help solve this problem.
4. Impact of Facebook
The Impact of Facebook on Young Generation
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: Facebook, one of the most popular social media
platforms, has become an inseparable part of the daily life of young people nowadays. Millions
of people, especially students, spend hours on Facebook every day.
On the positive side, Facebook helps people stay connected with friends and relatives, share
information quickly, and even promotes business and social awareness campaigns. However, its
negative impact is also alarming. Many students waste valuable study time browsing Facebook,
which affects their result badly. Excessive use also causes eye problems, sleep disturbance, and
isolation from real social life. Moreover, spreading rumours and fake news through Facebook
has become a common problem in recent times.
Experts suggest that a limited and purposeful use of Facebook, along with parental guidance,
can help young people enjoy its benefits without falling victim to its harmful effects.
5. Price Hike
Price Hike of Daily Commodities
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: The continuous price hike of essential commodities
has made the life of ordinary people, especially those with fixed and low income, extremely
difficult. The prices of rice, oil, vegetables, and other daily necessities are increasing almost
every month.
Syndicates of a few businessmen, an increase in the price of goods in the international market,
transport cost, and hoarding are considered the main reasons behind this price hike. Poor and
middle-class families are the worst sufferers, as they often have to cut down on their food and
other basic needs to survive.
Though the government has taken some steps like open market sales (OMS) and monitoring by
mobile courts, these measures have not been enough to bring the market under control.
Economists suggest that breaking the syndicates, ensuring a smooth supply chain, and strict
market monitoring can bring relief to the common people.
6. Dengue Fever
Dengue Fever: A Growing Public Health Concern
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral disease, has
become a serious public health concern in Bangladesh, especially during and after the rainy
season. Every year, thousands of people are affected, and a good number of patients, including
children, lose their lives due to this disease.
The Aedes mosquito, which breeds in clean stagnant water, is responsible for spreading the
dengue virus. Unplanned urbanisation, poor waste management, and a lack of public
awareness about mosquito breeding grounds are the main reasons behind the rapid spread of
this disease.
Hospitals often become overcrowded with dengue patients during the peak season, putting
extra pressure on the healthcare system.
Health experts suggest that removing stagnant water regularly, using mosquito nets, and
increasing public awareness through campaigns can help control the outbreak of dengue fever.
7. Fire Accident
A Devastating Fire Accident
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: A devastating fire broke out at [write a place name]
yesterday, causing huge loss of life and property. The fire reportedly started from an electric
short circuit and, fuelled by strong wind, spread rapidly to the nearby shops and buildings
before the fire brigade could bring it under control.
Several fire-fighting units worked for hours to douse the flames. A number of people were
injured, and some of them were rescued by the fire service in a critical condition. Goods and
valuables worth lakhs of taka were reduced to ashes.
Faulty electric wiring, narrow roads that delay fire service vehicles, and the lack of fire safety
measures in buildings are identified as the common causes of such fire accidents in our
country.
Authorities have urged all shop and building owners to install proper fire extinguishing
equipment and follow the building code strictly to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
8. Earthquake in Bangladesh
The Risk of Earthquake in Bangladesh
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: Bangladesh lies in one of the most earthquake-prone
zones in the world, as it is situated near the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic
plates. In recent years, the country has experienced several mild to moderate earthquakes,
which have raised concerns among experts about the risk of a major earthquake in the future.
Experts warn that unplanned and unauthorised construction of high-rise buildings, especially
in cities like Dhaka and Chattogram, could result in massive destruction and casualties if a
strong earthquake strikes. The lack of public awareness about earthquake safety measures
makes the situation even more alarming.
Although the government has introduced a National Building Code, its implementation remains
weak in many areas.
Experts suggest that strict enforcement of the building code, regular earthquake drills, and
public awareness programmes are essential to reduce the possible damage of a future
earthquake.
9. Slum Dwellers’ Life
The Miserable Life of Slum Dwellers
[Write your area name], [Write the date]: A visit to any slum area of a big city like Dhaka
reveals the miserable condition of slum dwellers. Most of them are poor people who have
migrated from villages in search of work and a better livelihood, but they end up living in
extremely inhuman conditions.
They live in tiny, congested rooms made of tin and bamboo, without proper sanitation, safe
drinking water, or electricity. Many of them work as rickshaw pullers, garment workers, or
domestic help, earning very little, which is hardly enough to maintain a family. Their children
are deprived of proper education and healthcare, and many of them are forced into child
labour.
Lack of government initiative, absence of proper housing policy for the urban poor, and social
neglect are the main reasons behind their sufferings.
Concerned citizens believe that rehabilitation programmes, low-cost housing projects, and
access to education and healthcare can improve the condition of slum dwellers.
10. Prize Giving Ceremony
Annual Prize Giving Ceremony
[Write your college name], [Write the date]: The annual prize giving ceremony of [write your
college name] was held yesterday in the college auditorium with due festivity. The Principal of
the college presided over the function, while the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests
graced the occasion.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome speech by
the Principal, who highlighted the academic and co-curricular achievements of the college over
the past year. Students who secured outstanding results in the examinations and excelled in
sports, debate, and cultural activities were awarded certificates, trophies, and books by the
Chief Guest.
A cultural programme, including songs, dance, and recitation performed by the students, added
colour to the occasion and entertained the audience thoroughly.
The Chief Guest, in his speech, urged the students to work hard, maintain discipline, and
uphold moral values in life. The programme ended with a vote of thanks and the national
anthem.
11. Drug Addiction (Same topic as Report No. 3)
Note: This topic is the same as Report No. 3 “Drug Addiction” above. Please refer to that report, as
writing the same topic twice is unnecessary. You may practise it by changing a few sentences in
your own words for extra practice.
PART 3: PARAGRAPH WRITING
1. Drug Addiction
Drug addiction is one of the most serious social problems of our country. It means the habitual
and uncontrolled use of harmful drugs like yaba, heroin, phensedyl, and cannabis. Mainly,
teenagers and young people fall victim to this addiction due to frustration, unemployment,
curiosity, bad company, and family conflict. Once a person becomes addicted, he gradually loses
interest in study, work, and family life. To manage money for drugs, many addicted people get
involved in crimes like theft, mugging, and even murder. Drug addiction also destroys the
physical and mental health of a person and brings shame to the family and society. It is high
time we took urgent steps to stop this problem. Strict law enforcement against drug dealers,
family bonding, moral education, and proper rehabilitation centres for the addicted can help
solve this grave problem. Above all, both the family and society should come forward with
sympathy, rather than hatred, to bring the addicted back to a normal life.
2. Road Accident
Road accident is a very common but alarming incident in our country. Almost every day,
newspapers report the sad news of fatal road accidents that take away many precious lives and
leave many others disabled for the rest of their lives. Reckless and unskilled driving, violation
of traffic rules, poor condition of roads and vehicles, and overtaking in a hurry are the main
causes of road accidents. Sometimes drivers drive under the influence of drugs, which increases
the risk further. The victims of road accidents are mostly poor people who cannot afford proper
treatment, and many families lose their only earning member. To reduce road accidents, the
government should ensure strict enforcement of traffic rules, provide proper training for
drivers, and improve the condition of roads. Pedestrians should also be careful and use
footbridges and zebra crossings. If everyone becomes conscious and follows the rules of the
road strictly, the number of road accidents can be reduced to a great extent.
3. Importance of Moral Values
Moral values refer to the sense of right and wrong that guides a person’s behaviour in life.
Honesty, truthfulness, kindness, respect for others, and a sense of duty are some of the most
important moral values a person should possess. Moral values help a person build good
character and gain the trust and respect of others in society. A person without moral values
may achieve worldly success, but he cannot earn true happiness and peace of mind. Moral
values are usually developed in a person through family upbringing, education, religion, and
social environment from childhood. In the present time, due to the bad influence of some social
media content, materialism, and lack of moral education in the curriculum, the younger
generation is gradually losing these values, which is reflected in the rising rate of crime and
corruption in society. Therefore, it is essential to teach moral values to children right from an
early age, both at home and in educational institutions, so that they grow up to be honest and
responsible citizens.
4. Female Education
Female education means providing equal opportunities to women for acquiring knowledge and
skills, just like men. It plays a vital role in the overall development of a nation. An educated
woman can take care of her family, health, and children in a better way, and she can also
contribute to the economy of the country by working alongside men. Educated mothers are
more likely to send their children, especially daughters, to school, which creates a positive cycle
for the whole society. Female education also helps to reduce child marriage, dowry, and various
forms of discrimination against women, and empowers them to make their own decisions in
life. The government of Bangladesh has taken several praiseworthy steps, such as free
education and stipends for girl students up to a certain level, to encourage female education.
However, poverty, early marriage, and social prejudice in some remote areas still prevent many
girls from continuing their education. If we want to build a developed and prosperous nation,
we must ensure equal educational opportunities for both men and women without any
discrimination.
5. Democracy vs Autocracy
Democracy and autocracy are two contrasting forms of government. In a democracy, the
government is elected by the people through a free and fair election, and it is accountable to the
people for its actions. Freedom of speech, the right to vote, and equality before the law are the
main features of democracy. On the other hand, in an autocracy, all the power is concentrated
in the hands of a single ruler or a small group of people, and citizens have little or no say in the
government’s decisions. An autocratic ruler often suppresses opposition and freedom of
expression to hold on to power. Although democracy is a slower process and sometimes leads to
instability due to political conflicts, it ensures the participation and rights of the common
people in the long run. Autocracy, though it may bring quick decisions and short-term stability,
often results in a lack of accountability, corruption, and suppression of human rights.
Considering the rights, freedom, and dignity of the common people, democracy is widely
regarded as a better and more sustainable form of government than autocracy.
6. City Life vs Rural Life
City life and rural life are quite different from each other in many ways. City life is fast, modern,
and full of opportunities for education, healthcare, and employment. Cities offer better
transport, communication, and entertainment facilities, which attract a large number of people
from villages every year. However, city life is also full of challenges like traffic jams, air and
noise pollution, high cost of living, and a lack of close social bonding among people. On the
other hand, rural life is calm, peaceful, and closely connected with nature. People in villages live
a simple life, and social bonding among them is much stronger than in cities. However, rural
areas often lack modern educational institutions, advanced healthcare facilities, and sufficient
employment opportunities, which forces many young people to migrate to cities. Both city life
and rural life have their own advantages and disadvantages, and a balanced development of
both urban and rural areas is essential for the overall progress of a country.
7. Moral Degradation of Young Generation
Moral degradation refers to the gradual decline of good values, ethics, and manners among
people, especially the young generation, in recent times. Many young people nowadays are
losing respect for their parents and teachers, becoming addicted to drugs, and getting involved
in various types of crimes like eve-teasing, mugging, and cyber bullying. The excessive and
uncontrolled use of social media, exposure to violent content, lack of proper moral education at
home and in institutions, unemployment, and bad company are the main reasons behind this
moral degradation. This problem is not only harming the young generation themselves but also
creating a serious threat to the peace and stability of the whole society. Family, educational
institutions, and the media should work together to teach moral and religious values to young
people from an early age. Furthermore, monitoring social media content and creating
employment opportunities can help engage the young generation in productive activities and
prevent them from moral degradation.
8. Environmental Pollution
Environmental pollution refers to the contamination of air, water, and soil by harmful
substances, which poses a serious threat to all living beings on earth. Air pollution is caused by
smoke from vehicles, brick kilns, and factories, while water pollution results from the disposal
of industrial waste, untreated sewage, and polythene into rivers and canals. Soil pollution
occurs due to the excessive use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides, and improper waste disposal.
As a result of this pollution, people are suffering from various diseases like respiratory
problems, skin diseases, and cancer, while aquatic and wild animals are losing their natural
habitats. Environmental pollution is also one of the main reasons behind climate change, which
is causing unusual weather patterns, rising sea levels, and natural disasters across the world.
To control environmental pollution, the government should enforce strict environmental laws,
encourage the use of renewable energy, and promote recycling of waste. At the same time, every
individual should be conscious of their responsibility to keep the environment clean for a safe
and healthy future.
9. Online Education vs Traditional Classroom Education
Online education and traditional classroom education are two different methods of learning,
each having its own merits and demerits. Online education allows students to attend classes
from home using the internet, which saves time and travel cost and gives them the flexibility to
learn at their own pace. It became especially popular during the COVID-19 pandemic when
physical classes were not possible. However, online education requires a stable internet
connection and electronic devices, which are not affordable for all students, especially those
from poor families. Moreover, it lacks direct interaction between teachers and students, and
many students find it difficult to stay disciplined and focused while studying at home. On the
other hand, traditional classroom education ensures direct communication, discipline, and a
proper learning environment, though it is less flexible in terms of time and place. Considering
the current situation, a combination of both methods, commonly known as blended learning,
can offer the best learning experience for students by taking advantage of the benefits of both
systems.
10. Uses and Abuses of Internet
The internet is one of the most remarkable inventions of modern science, which has connected
the whole world like a global village. It has countless uses in our daily life. We can gather
information, communicate with people from distant places, conduct online classes and
business, and get entertainment through the internet with just one click. Students can access a
huge amount of educational resources, and professionals can perform many official tasks
online, saving both time and money. However, like every other invention, the internet also has
some abuses. Many young people waste their valuable time on social media and online games,
which negatively affects their study and health. Cyber crimes such as hacking, spreading fake
news, and cyber bullying have also increased due to the misuse of the internet. To enjoy the
benefits of the internet without falling victim to its abuses, we should use it in a limited and
purposeful way, and parents and guardians should monitor the online activities of their
children.
PART 4: COMPOSITION / ESSAY WRITING
1. July Uprising
The July Uprising
Introduction: The July Uprising refers to the historic mass movement that took place in
Bangladesh in July and August 2024. It started as a peaceful student movement demanding
reform of the discriminatory quota system in government jobs and gradually turned into a
nationwide movement for justice, democracy, and accountability.
Background and Causes: The movement began when students, mainly from public universities,
protested against the reintroduction of the quota system in government recruitment, which
they considered unfair and discriminatory. Long-standing public frustration over
unemployment, lack of accountability, and demand for good governance fuelled the protests
further, and the movement gradually spread across the whole country, involving people from
all walks of life.
Course of the Movement: What began as a student demand for quota reform turned into a
much larger movement after the authorities responded to peaceful protesters with force. The
killing and injury of a large number of students and common people during the crackdown
caused widespread outrage, and people from all sections of society, including teachers, cultural
activists, and ordinary citizens, joined the movement. The movement is remembered as one of
the most significant events in the history of Bangladesh since independence, ultimately leading
to major political changes in the country.
Impact and Significance: The July Uprising showed the power of unity among the youth and the
common people of Bangladesh. It taught the nation that no force can suppress the united voice
of the people demanding justice and rights. The sacrifice of the students and common people
during this movement will be remembered forever in the history of the nation.
Conclusion: The July Uprising stands as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the demand for
justice by the people of Bangladesh. It reminds us that a united voice against injustice can bring
real change, and the memory of this movement will continue to inspire the coming generations
to stand for truth and justice.
2. July Gono Obhutthan (The July Mass Uprising)
The July Mass Uprising (July Gono Obhutthan)
Introduction: The July Gono Obhutthan, commonly known as the July Mass Uprising, is the
name given to the historic movement of 2024 in Bangladesh, in which students and people from
all walks of life united to demand justice, reform, and accountability from the government.
Origin of the Movement: The uprising originated from a student movement against the quota
system in government jobs, but it quickly turned into a much wider movement representing
the collective anger of the common people against injustice, discrimination, and the demand for
good governance.
Nationwide Participation: What makes this movement historic is the mass participation of
people beyond students – including teachers, cultural workers, professionals, and people from
every corner of society. People came out onto the streets in huge numbers, showing
unprecedented unity and courage despite facing a violent crackdown.
Sacrifice and Outcome: A large number of people, including many students, lost their lives, and
many more were injured during this movement. Their sacrifice created a strong wave of public
support, ultimately resulting in a major change in the country’s political situation. The
movement is now regarded as one of the most important chapters in the history of Bangladesh.
Conclusion: The July Gono Obhutthan will remain a glorious chapter in the history of
Bangladesh, reminding us that the united voice of the people can bring real change against
injustice. The memory and sacrifice of this uprising will continue to inspire generations to
stand up for truth, justice, and democratic rights.
3. Climate Change
Climate Change
Introduction: Climate change refers to the long-term change in the average weather patterns of
the earth, such as rising temperature, unusual rainfall, and frequent natural disasters. It is one
of the most serious global problems of the present time, threatening the survival of both human
beings and other living creatures.
Causes: The excessive emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide from industries,
vehicles, and deforestation is the main cause of climate change. Rapid industrialisation, the
burning of fossil fuels, and unplanned urbanisation have increased the level of greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere, causing global warming, which leads to climate change.
Effects: Climate change has caused the melting of glaciers and polar ice, leading to a rise in sea
level, which threatens to submerge low-lying coastal areas, including a large part of
Bangladesh. It also results in irregular rainfall, prolonged droughts, and more frequent and
intense natural disasters such as cyclones and floods, which damage crops, homes, and human
lives. Bangladesh, being a low-lying deltaic country, is one of the worst victims of climate
change, even though its own contribution to global emissions is minimal.
Remedy: To fight climate change, countries need to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by
using renewable energy sources like solar and wind power, stopping deforestation, and
planting more trees. International cooperation and the implementation of climate agreements
are also essential to reduce the overall impact of climate change on the world.
Conclusion: Climate change is a global crisis that requires urgent and collective action from
every country of the world. If proper steps are not taken immediately, the future of our planet
and coming generations will be in serious danger.
4. Student and Social Service
Student and Social Service
Introduction: Students are considered the future of a nation, and social service means working
voluntarily for the welfare of society without any personal gain. Students, being energetic,
educated, and idealistic, can play a vital role in various social service activities.
Importance of Social Service for Students: Social service helps students develop a sense of
responsibility, empathy, and leadership quality from an early age. By taking part in social work,
students learn to work in a team, understand the real problems of society, and develop practical
knowledge alongside their academic education.
Fields of Social Service: Students can serve society in various ways, such as spreading literacy
among illiterate people, creating awareness against social evils like dowry, child marriage, and
drug addiction, helping flood or disaster-affected people with relief materials, donating blood,
keeping their surroundings clean, and assisting in tree plantation programmes.

5. Rivers of Bangladesh
Rivers of Bangladesh
Introduction: Bangladesh is often called a land of rivers, as it is crisscrossed by hundreds of
small and big rivers. These rivers play a vital role in shaping the economy, culture, and daily life
of the people of this country.
Major Rivers: The Padma, the Meghna, the Jamuna, and the Brahmaputra are the main rivers
of Bangladesh. The Padma is formed by the river Ganges, while the Jamuna is a continuation of
the Brahmaputra. These major rivers, along with hundreds of tributaries, cover almost the
whole country and finally fall into the Bay of Bengal.
Importance: The rivers of Bangladesh are the lifeline of its people. They provide water for
irrigation, which makes the land fertile for agriculture, and serve as the main means of
communication and transportation of goods in many parts of the country, especially in the
rural areas. The rivers are also a great source of fish, which is a staple food and a source of
livelihood for millions of people. Moreover, the rivers have a great influence on the culture, folk
songs, and literature of Bangladesh.
Problems: Unfortunately, many rivers of Bangladesh are facing serious threats due to
unplanned dredging, illegal encroachment, industrial pollution, and the construction of dams
by neighbouring countries in the upstream, which has reduced the water flow considerably
during the dry season, causing many rivers to lose their navigability.
Conclusion: The rivers are an integral part of the identity of Bangladesh, and proper
conservation of these rivers is essential for the economic and environmental well-being of the
country. The government and the people should work together to protect these rivers from
pollution and unauthorised encroachment.
6. Unemployment Problem in Bangladesh
Unemployment Problem in Bangladesh
Introduction: Unemployment is one of the most burning problems of Bangladesh, referring to
the situation where a large number of able and willing people cannot find suitable jobs to earn
their livelihood. It is a major obstacle to the economic and social development of the country.
Causes: Rapid population growth, a lack of quality and technical education matching the
demand of the job market, insufficient industrialisation, corruption in the recruitment process,
and an over-dependence on government jobs are the main causes of unemployment in
Bangladesh. Moreover, many educated young people are unwilling to take up small businesses
or technical jobs, which increases the rate of educated unemployment.
Effects: Unemployment causes serious social problems like poverty, frustration among the
youth, and an increase in crime and drug addiction, as frustrated unemployed young people
sometimes take the wrong path. It also encourages many young people to migrate to foreign
countries in search of work, leading to a loss of skilled manpower for the country.
Remedy: To solve this problem, the government should introduce more technical and
vocational education matching the needs of the job market, encourage entrepreneurship among
the youth by providing easy loans, and attract more foreign and local investment to create new
job opportunities. Corruption in recruitment must also be stopped to ensure that deserving
candidates get proper employment.
Conclusion: Unemployment is a serious threat to the economic progress and social stability of
Bangladesh. Combined efforts of the government, private sector, and the youth themselves are
necessary to reduce this problem and to build a prosperous and self-reliant nation.

10. Patriotism
Patriotism
Introduction: Patriotism means the deep love, respect, and devotion that a person feels for his
motherland. A true patriot always places the interest of his country above his personal interest
and is ready to make any sacrifice for the welfare and dignity of his nation.
Qualities of a Patriot: A true patriot loves his country’s people, culture, history, and heritage. He
performs his duties honestly, obeys the law, pays taxes properly, and works for the progress of
the country instead of only demanding rights from it. A patriot also respects the sacrifices of
the martyrs and freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the independence of the
country.
Examples of Patriotism: The freedom fighters of Bangladesh, who fought and sacrificed their
lives in the Liberation War of 1971 to free the country from oppression, are the best examples of
patriotism. In recent times as well, the courage and sacrifice shown by ordinary people to stand
against injustice for the sake of the nation also reflect the true spirit of patriotism.
Ways to Cultivate Patriotism: Patriotism can be cultivated through proper education about the
history and culture of one’s country, respect for national symbols, and by performing one’s
civic duties sincerely. Every citizen should try to keep the country free from corruption,

should be reflected in our actions for the betterment of our motherland. Every citizen should
try to be a true patriot by performing their duties honestly for the progress of the nation.
11. Is Population a Problem or a Prospect?
Is Population a Problem or a Prospect?
Introduction: Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, with a
huge number of people living within a comparatively small area of land. Whether this large
population is a problem or a prospect for the country has been a matter of debate for a long
time.
Population as a Problem: A large population puts huge pressure on the limited resources of a
country like Bangladesh. It creates problems like unemployment, food shortage, housing crisis,
and pressure on educational and healthcare facilities. Overpopulation is also linked to
environmental problems like deforestation and pollution, as more land is needed for housing
and agriculture to feed the growing number of people.
Population as a Prospect: On the other hand, if properly trained and educated, this huge
population can be turned into a valuable human resource, commonly known as a “demographic
dividend.” A large workforce, if equipped with proper skills and education, can contribute
significantly to the industrial and economic growth of the country. Many countries have
transformed their large population into a driving force for economic development through
proper planning, technical education, and employment generation.
Way Forward: To turn this large population into an asset rather than a burden, the government
needs to invest more in quality education, technical and vocational training, and creating
employment opportunities matching modern demands. Population control measures should
also continue alongside these efforts to maintain a sustainable balance between population and
resources.
Conclusion: Population itself is neither a curse nor a blessing; rather, it depends on how a
country manages and utilises this large number of people. With proper planning, education,
and employment generation, Bangladesh’s large population can indeed be turned from a
problem into a great prospect for the nation.
