RIDDLES
I have many leaves,
But I’m not a tree.
I’m something nice,
Come and read me. (A book)
It is running
Night and day,
But it never
Runs away. (A clock)
He doesn’t speak,
Nor does he sing,
Nor at the doorbell
Give a ring.
But still he lets
His master know
Who wants to see him:
A friend or foe. (A dog)
My face is black,
As black as night.
On it, with chalk,
All pupils write. (A blackboard)
I have no legs,
But I can run.
I have no tongue,
But I tell everyone:
“Time to start work!”
“Time to go to bed!”
“Time to get up again,
You, sleepy-head!” (An alarm-clock)
Never planted,
Still it grows.
What’s the answer?
Now who knows? (Hair)
Runs all day and never walks.
Often murmurs, never talks.
It has a bed, but never sleeps.
It has a mouth, but never eats. (A river)
He likes carrots,
And at night,
When the moon
And stars are bright.
To the farmer’s
Field he’ll go,
Where the juicy
Carrots grow.
Who’s he? (A rabbit)
Whether I’m coming
Or whether I’m going,
I sing a song
When I am blowing. (Wind)
I know something
Which falls upon the ground.
I know something
Which doesn’t make a sound.
I know something
Which makes the whole world white,
And when the children see it
They shout with delight. (Snow)
We have friends,
They cannot talk
And cannot see,
But they are very good
To you and me.
With these friends
We sail on ships
And ride on trains,
And even fly
In airplanes.
These friends show us
Towns, seas and lands.
Can you guess
Who are these good friends? (Books)
Higher than a house,
Higher than a tree –
Oh, whatever
Can that be? (A cloud)
I am an insect,
I have a long tongue,
I gather nectar from flowers,
I live in a hive. (A bee)
We are very large,
Though we seem small,
We float on high and never fall,
We shine like jewels in the night,
But in the day are hid from sight. (Stars)
