Dear Members of the Student Housing & Infrastructure Committee,
We are writing collectively as the residents of the boys’ hostels to draw your attention
to several critical infrastructure deficits currently impacting daily student life. We fully
recognize the effort required to manage campus operations; however, with the upcoming
academic session and the arrival of the new batch, we believe it is essential to address
these operational constraints before they escalate further.
1. The Laundry Infrastructure
The current laundry infrastructure is mathematically incapable of supporting the current
residential population.
Right now, there are approximately 800 male residents sharing 10 to 12 washing machines,
several of which are frequently out of order. Each load takes roughly 4 hours, accounting
for cycle duration, draining, and machine availability.
Even under an ideal scenario where all 12 machines operate continuously 24 hours a day,
the absolute theoretical maximum output is:
24 hrs
12 machines × = 72 loads/day
4 hrs/cycle
However, assuming a modest 3-day wash cycle for 800 residents, the total required daily
output is:
800 students
≈ 267 loads/day
3 days
This demand exceeds maximum theoretical capacity by nearly 4×. In practice, with 8 to
10 functional machines and routine operational downtime, real capacity drops to 32–40
loads per day, creating a severe 6- to 7-day laundry backlog across the hostel blocks.
With the arrival of approximately 300 incoming freshers, the total resident count will
reach 1,100, pushing required daily demand to:
1100 students
≈ 367 loads/day
3 days
Without immediate machine repairs and fleet expansion, the system will face total failure.
2. Wi-Fi Coverage and Dead Zones
Network connectivity remains unreliable across several residential blocks. Multiple rooms
experience severe signal attenuation, frequent dropouts, and high packet loss. Given that
academic submissions, coursework, and online sessions depend on steady connectivity, we
request a coverage audit and the deployment of additional Access Points in low-signal
zones.
3. Gym Capacity and Overcrowding
The current gym footprint and equipment density are insufficient for the current student
population. During peak hours, severe overcrowding leads to safety concerns and prolonged
waiting times. Adding 300 incoming students to the current facility will make it non-
functional without expanded space, additional equipment, or a structured access slot
system.
Summary of Requested Action Items:
• Immediate repair of malfunctioning washing machines and procurement of additional
units prior to the freshers’ arrival.
• Conducting a Wi-Fi coverage audit and installing supplementary Access Points in
dead zones.
• Expanding gym floor capacity or implementing managed time slots to control
peak-hour crowding.
We appreciate your time, attention, and continued efforts toward improving campus
infrastructure. We look forward to your response regarding the steps and timeline for
resolving these issues.
