Answer Key
1. Define VLAN
A Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) is a network segmentation technique
that allows the creation of multiple isolated broadcast domains within a single
physical network, enhancing network security and efficiency by logically
dividing devices.
2. Define Inter Vlan Routing
Inter-VLAN routing is a technique that allows communication between
different VLANs on a network. It typically involves a router or Layer 3 switch to
facilitate the exchange of data packets between VLANs, enabling segmented
and efficient network traffic management
3. Define trunk encapsulations
Trunk encapsulations refer to the method of packaging and formatting data for
transmission over a network trunk. Common trunk encapsulation protocols
include
1-IEEE 802.1Q, is standard encapsulation and use 4 Bytes tag.
2- ISL (Inter-Switch Link),is cisco proprietary encapsulation use 20 Bytes
overhead, it will encapsulate whole frame
4. difference between router on a stick and svi
Router on a Stick: when we use layer 2 switches in our environment then we
use a separate router or layer 3 device that is why it is called Router on stick.

SVI (Switched Virtual Interface): When we use Layer 3 or MLS then no need
to use separate Router. Now we will create interfaces of specific VLANs that
is called SVI

In summary, Router on a Stick uses a single physical interface for multiple

VLANs, while SVI is a virtual interface on a Layer 3 switch that acts as a
gateway for each VLAN.
5. Define SSH for Switch
SSH (Secure Shell) for a switch is a cryptographic network protocol that
provides a secure way to access and manage the switch remotely. It enables
encrypted communication between a client and the switch, ensuring secure
command-line access for configuration and monitoring purposes.
