Chapter Six: The Door

"Daniel!"

Mika ran toward him.

He sat up.

"I'm okay."

"Are you sure?"

"I think so."

The underground facility began collapsing.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

Emergency lights flashed.

Mika grabbed Daniel's arm.

"We're leaving."

They ran.

The staircase seemed longer now.

Behind them came the sound of metal twisting.

They reached the surface just as part of the station collapsed.

The tower above them flickered.

Then the entire structure emitted a pulse of blue light.

The forest became silent.

No birds.

No insects.

Nothing.

Mika looked at her phone.


It turned on.

One notification appeared.

MESSAGE RECEIVED.

She opened it.

A photograph.

Earth.

But this photograph was different.

It showed Earth surrounded by thousands of glowing points.

Each point was a star.

Underneath the image:

THE DOOR IS OPEN.

Daniel read it.

"What door?"

Mika looked toward the sky.

The stars were beginning to disappear again.

One by one.

She remembered Dr. Vale.

Information bridge.

The entity traveled through information.

Then she understood.

"The door isn't Station 9."

Daniel looked at her.

"Then what is it?"


Mika held up her phone.

"The signal."

Chapter Seven: The World Listens


Within hours, the phenomenon became global.

People everywhere reported disappearing stars.

Television stations began broadcasting emergency messages.

Scientists argued.

Governments issued contradictory statements.

Some said it was a solar phenomenon.

Others claimed it was a military experiment.

Some religious groups called it a sign.

The internet exploded with theories.

But Mika knew the truth.

She sat in her father's laboratory while he examined the information she had brought from
Station 9.

He stared at the symbols.

"This is impossible."

"I know."

"These equations..."

"What about them?"

"They describe a communication system."

"Can you stop it?"

Her father looked at her.

"I don't know."


Daniel entered the room carrying a box.

"We found this."

Inside was an old hard drive.

It had been recovered from Station 9.

Mika connected it to an isolated computer.

The screen displayed a single file.

ORION_FINAL

She clicked it.

A video appeared.

Dr. Vale.

But this time she looked tired.

"If you're watching this," she said, "the entity has reached your civilization."

Mika leaned closer.

"We discovered that the entity does not attack planets directly."

Dr. Vale continued.

"It waits."

"For what?"

"For someone to answer."

Mika froze.

Daniel whispered:

"That's the key."

Dr. Vale nodded in the video.

"Every civilization that encountered the signal made the same mistake."
She leaned closer to the camera.

"They answered."

Mika looked at the communication logs.

"What happens if nobody answers?"

Dr. Vale smiled faintly.

"Then it cannot find you."

The video ended.

Mika stared at the screen.

"Nobody answers."

Her father shook his head.

"How do you silence every communication system on Earth?"

"We don't."

Daniel looked at her.

"What?"

"We make one message."

"To who?"

"To everyone."
