directive

The European Union's WEEE directive requires that products sold into EU countries must have the crossed out
trash bin label on the product (or the package in some cases).
As defined by the WEEE directive, this cross-out trash bin label means that customers and end-users in EU countries
should not dispose of electronic and electrical equipment or accessories in household waste.
Customers or end-users in EU countries should contact their local equipment supplier representative or service centre
for information about the waste collection system in their country.

CMM Labeling and Disclosure Table
The People’s Republic of China requires that our products comply with China Management Methods (CMM)
environmental regulations. (China Management Methods refers to the Regulation Management Methods for
Controlling Pollution by Electronic Information Products.) Two items are used to demonstrate compliance; the Label
and the Disclosure Table.
The label is placed in a customer visible position on the product. The first of the following examples means that the
product contains no hazardous substances; the second means that the product contains hazardous substances, and has
an Environmental Friendly Use Period (EFUP) of fifty years.

The Environmental Friendly Use Period (EFUP) is the period (in years) during which the Toxic and Hazardous
Substances (T&HS) contained in the Electronic Information Product (EIP) will not leak or mutate causing
environmental pollution, or bodily injury from the use of the EIP.
The Disclosure Table, printed in simplified Chinese, is included with each customer order. An example of a
Disclosure Table (in Chinese) follows:

Chapter

1
Description

This chapter provides an introduction to the Network Management Client, and includes these topics:
• Introduction on page 27.
• NM Client and the Transport Network Device Manager (TNDM) on page 29
• AntiVirus Feature Description on page 30.
• Application Launcher Description on page 30.

Introduction

The Network Management (NM) Client workstations are commercial personal computers running the Microsoft
Windows® Operating System for networked computers. Authorized system managers or network administrator
personnel use the client PC workstations to start and run the software applications for configuring, viewing equipment
operational status, and monitoring network utilization and performance. The servers are industrial grade, high
performance computers geared to handle the intense, typically real-time, data processing tasks associated with
managing a single zone, or handling specific system-level tasks, in multiple zone systems.

The Hewlett-Packard PCs are currently approved for use by Motorola and are typically used for console,
configuration, and management applications.
Important: The PC manufacturer, model, and specifications vary depending on the workstation certified
for a particular system.

Operating Frequencies and Voltages

See the Backup and Restore Including FRU/FRE volume for detailed hardware descriptions and specifications.

Equipment Weights
See the Backup and Restore Including FRU/FRE volume for detailed hardware descriptions and specifications.

Windows-Based Clients
The new NM architecture distributes most of the user application processing to the client PC workstations. This
approach yields important benefits:
• Application performance is less dependent on the number of concurrent users and open applications.
• Personnel typically responsible for managing a radio system or computer network are already familiar with, or
easily trained to use, the GUI of NM applications that conform to Windows® Operating System conventions.
• Remote operation performance over a limited bandwidth link (for example, a telephone line used for accessing the
network remotely through dial-up modems) is improved.

For detailed information regarding the installation and operation of the Transport Network Device Manager on the
NM Client PC, see the Transport Network Device Manager (TNDM) manual.

AntiVirus Feature Description

Note: The installation of the AntiVirus client is optional. For details on how to install and configure the
A/V solution, see the relevant section in Installation and Configuration chapter of the Network Security
Subsystem manual.
Dimetras AntiVirus solution provides automated virus protection for workstations and network servers to maximize
system uptime. Centralized configuration, deployment, alerting, and logging enables administrators to manage the
network to determine which nodes are vulnerable to virus attacks. Integrated response content helps organizations
maximize uptime, reduce the cost of ownership, and ensure the integrity of their data.
Automatic removal enables disposal of security risks. Side-effect repair automatically cleans up registry entries, files,
and load points. Administrators have the flexibility to gain maximum control over protection settings through the
existing AntiVirus management interface. Enhanced tamper protection guards all processes and registry entries from
unauthorized access and attacks.
Advanced behavior blocking prevents client systems from being used for malicious outbound activities, such as,
sending viruses through e-mail. Centralized communication architecture provides a single update to protect the
enterprise from viruses. Client compliancy technology allows the administrator to ensure that mobile and remote
systems connecting to radio network resources through VPN are compliant with security policies.

Application Launcher Description

Application Launcher is the starting point to access the Motorola Private Radio Network Management (PRNM)

• Access the applications that manage and monitor the system and zones.
• View applications available for the system and for each zone.
• Change and store your password.
• Change server access.
• Exit Application Launcher in a secure manner so that the next user is prompted to log in.

Permissions
The system manager assigns permissions to each user in the system. These permissions determine which applications,
security groups, and objects you can access. Application Launcher builds the system view in the Windows® Explorer
window. It displays only the system-level applications, zones, and zone-level applications for which there is
permission to access based on current user permissions.

Storage PC
NM Client PC in the lowest octet zone in the cluster can be used as Storage PC. Storage PC can be designated for an
external (to MUIS) storage for cumulative backup files – by a proper procedure executed from Upgrade Console.
Once the storage is established (by creating a proper network share accessible from MUIS), the backup files taken on
a central backup location can be copied to this storage.

Disabling SNMP Traps Forwarding to the UEM (Unauthorized

Access Attempt Notification)
Unauthorized Access Attempt Notification feature allows system operators to audit and monitor the user login process
that takes place at the NM Client terminals. Controlling and monitoring access attempts to the system is important as
unauthorized access can have severe consequences. This feature offers an early warning and a way to respond and
defend against repeated failed access attempts by blocking of a user account after five unsuccessful logins for 60
minutes. As early warning of potential illegal logon access attempts an alarm is issued after three unsuccessful
attempts within a time interval of 180 seconds. The alarm is forwarded to the UEM as an SNMP trap. Procedure
below describes how to disable sending SNMP traps to UEM.
Procedure:
1 Click the Windows Start button.
2 In the search box, type [Link] Press ENTER.
3 Double-click the SNMP Service.
4 In the SNMP Service Properties window, click the Traps tab.
5 Remove the UEM IP address from the Trap destinations field.
6 Close all windows.

Maintenance

This chapter provides instructions for uninstalling the Transport Network Device Manager (TNDM), Private Radio
Network Manager (PRNM), and the System Traffic Monitor (STM) suites of applications from the Network
Management (NM) client.
There are no serviceable parts in the NM Client that require maintenance or calibration. Exterior cleaning with a
clean, lint-free cloth, or soft brush is sufficient. It is also advisable to do periodic interior cleaning of the cooling fan,
power supply, and boards by using a low-suction vacuum cleaner.
Since NM databases are not located in the NM Client PC and the NM Client application does not consume much
space on the hard drive, do not be concerned about performing additional PC maintenance. Regular PC maintenance
is enough for the NM Client. The NM Client PC should solely be used for NM Client activity. If you install any extra
applications, they may cause the NM Client to malfunction.
You should keep a minimum of 5 GB free space on the hard drive at all times.
Note: For the NM Client Periodic Maintenance Inspection (PMI) information, refer to the Appendices
booklet of the Backup and Restore Incl. FRU/FRE volume.
