Encoding

Line encoding converts binary data into digital signals for communication. Various methods exist, such as Unipolar NRZ, Polar NRZ-L, and Manchester, each with different voltage levels and synchronization capabilities. The document outlines these methods and their effectiveness in terms of synchronization.

Line encoding is the process of converting digital data (binary bits 0

and 1) into digital signals (voltage levels) for transmission over a

communication channel.

Method Voltage Levels Synchronization

Unipolar NRZ 0, +V Poor
Polar NRZ-L +V, −V Moderate
Polar NRZ-I +V, −V Good
Polar RZ +V, 0, −V Good
Manchester +V, −V Excellent
Differential Manchester +V, −V Excellent
AMI +V, 0, −V Good
Pseudo ternary +V, 0, −V Good
0 – No transition 1 -Transition
Based on Previous Bit (Inverse)
Pseudo (Opposite of AMI)
Transi on at the Middle (In halfway, Low to High for 0) and (In halfway, High to Low for 1)
Transi on at the Beginning if the Bit is 0 and Transi on at halfway
No Transi on at the Beginning if the Bit is 1 and Transi on at halfway
