20. Open Questions (to be completed by fresh-graduates only)
A) What do you consider to be the major challenges facing the profession today? How would you help position Dar Al-Handasah to both
meet and take advantages of these?
Today's key challenge is integrating rapid tech advancements like AI, IoT and smart systems into sustainable infrastructure.
Having worked for 8 months in infrastructure and light current engineering, I bring practical ready to use design expertise to the
team.
I can immediately contribute to designing scalable light current networks such as data, security, and smart building systems while
optimizing infrastructure workflows. This hands on experience ensures our telecom and low current layouts are highly efficient and
fully prepared for future digital transformations.
B) In Dar Al-Handasah, we work in challenging environments and strive to develop solutions for our clients. How we get there is as
important as getting there. Describe an achievement (preferably non-academic), highlighting your approach to a problem you faced
as well as the solution you developed.
I welcome technical challenges and never despair under obstacles but I see them as opportunities for practical engineering. During
my 8 months in light current, I worked on special nature projects with strict client constraints. In one project physical site limitations
made standard routing nearly impossible. Instead of taking shortcuts, I thoroughly studied global standards like BICSI and NFPA to
find compliant alternatives. I successfully designed a customized, space-saving containment layout that met the client’s needs while
strictly adhering to international codes, proving that practical solutions must never compromise on engineering standards.
C) What is your definition of leadership?
leadership is about leading by example, fostering collaboration, and empowering others to achieve their best. It is not about
authority, but taking responsibility during challenges and guiding the team toward shared success while maintaining high standards.
prc hr-01 (f3) rev 11, page 8/10
D) Often, new hires bring in a fresh, outside perspective during their first months at Dar Al-Handasah. We’re always interested in their
suggestions for improvement. If an idea or suggestion of yours would in your opinion bring significant improvements for Dar Al-
Handasah, how would you go about communicating it?
I believe any good idea needs solid ground first. I'd start by gathering some quick data to make sure my suggestion actually fits our
project standards. Once I have a clear picture, I’d put together a simple, brief proposal showing how it can improve our design
efficiency or workflow. I would then share it with my direct supervisor during a regular meeting to get their feedback. For me, it's
about presenting the idea as a team improvement, listening to their advice, and refining it together.
E) What is the most innovative thing you have done?
During my work in light current design at Hydro, I noticed we spent hours manually calculating conduit sizes and cable tray
capacities for different cable runs. It was tedious and left room for human error. To solve this, I designed a dynamic, automated
sizing sheet on Excel. I integrated standard code formulas, like NEC fill percentages, so that entering the cable quantities instantly
outputted the exact conduit and tray sizes needed. This turned a repetitive 2 hour task into a 5 minute drag and drop process,
drastically speeding up our design submittals while ensuring 100% accuracy.
F) What are your hobbies? Why are these hobbies satisfying to you?
Outside of work, I am really into sports, especially playing football and working out at the gym. What I love most about football is
that, unlike engineering, it has no formulas, equations, or predictable outcomes. It is full of raw, unexpected challenges where you
have to think on your feet and adapt instantly to win. Besides keeping me physically active and healthy, lifting weights and playing
sports is my ultimate way to clear my mind and recharge my energy.
G) What is your favorite reading material? and why?
I love a mix of history, biographies, physics, and tech articles. History and biographies teach me how people tackled real-world
challenges in the past, while physics explains how things work. At the same time, keeping up with rapid tech updates keeps my
mind sharp. This variety gives me a great balance and helps me look at engineering problems from different angles.
prc hr-01 (f3) rev 11, page 9/10
H) And lastly why us? Why are you applying to Dar Al-Handasah and amiably filling out this lengthy form we’ve asked for?
For any engineer, Dar Al-Handasah is the ultimate place to work on mega-projects that actually shape the infrastructure of the
region. I filled out this lengthy form because I wanted to show that I am genuinely interested and willing to put in the effort to join a
top-tier firm. I want to work in an environment where engineering is done right, according to international codes, and learn from the
best in the industry.
