Abstract

This document presents an investigation into modified gravity theories using non-Riemannian geometry to address challenges in General Relativity, particularly regarding dark energy and dark matter. The study explores how incorporating torsion and non-metricity can alter cosmological dynamics, potentially explaining the universe's accelerated expansion. The findings suggest that these theories may unify gravitational phenomena and contribute to future quantum gravity models.

Abstract

Modified gravity theories formulated within the framework of non-Riemannian

geometry. While General Relativity has been remarkably successful in describing
gravitational phenomena, it faces significant challenges at both infrared and
ultraviolet scales, particularly in accounting for dark energy, dark matter, and the
initial singularity. In response, we investigate extensions of Einstein's theory by
incorporating torsion and non-metricity, two geometric structures absent in the
purely Riemannian paradigm.
We focus on how these generalized geometric features alter the cosmological
dynamics and can potentially provide alternative explanations for the observed
accelerated expansion of the universe. Using variational principles and modified
field equations derived from generalized affine connections, we examine specific
cosmological models and derive the conditions under which they yield viable
scenarios for early-time inflation, late-time acceleration, or a bounce universe. The
role of symmetry, conservation laws, and effective energy-momentum tensors in
these theories is carefully analyzed.
Our findings suggest that non-Riemannian geometries offer a promising route
toward unifying gravitational phenomena across scales, shedding new light on the
nature of spacetime and the evolution of the cosmos. This work contributes to the
growing body of research that seeks to go beyond the standard model of
cosmology and may offer insights into a future quantum theory of gravity.
