Application to become a volunteer with the European Solidarity Corps -
With AFS Interkultur as Lead Organization
Your name:
Eszter Lili Gavenda
The name of the project you are applying for:
AFS interkultur 18+
What relevant experience do you have for this project?
A few years ago, I earned a degree in Cultural Community Coordination, and during my studies I
had the opportunity to volunteer at various cultural events. During my internship, I worked at a
community center in the heart of Budapest, where I assisted the event-organizing team with tasks
such as preparing the venue, ensuring events ran smoothly, and, in the case of musical events,
selling tickets, communicating with bands, coordinating with sound technicians, and even helping
out at the bar. In my final month, I also had the opportunity to assist my mother in organizing
bibliotherapeutic workshops at the center.
Furthermore, during my travels I volunteered at several hostels, which made me very familiar with
working abroad, being in an international environment, and constantly working with and for people.
In many of these hostels, we also organized musical events with local bands as well as creative
workshops, mostly focused on painting.
What is your educational background?
I have a BA degree in Cultural Community Coordination.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
I am good with working together and coordaniting people. I can work on my own but also in
a team. However sometimes I tend to take on too many tasks and I tend to be too strict with
myself sometimes.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy reading, card games, traveling and exploring new cities, and biking. Also I make my own
stickers and I do stick and poke tattoos.
Do you have any special needs that we should know of (allergies, diet, health, mental health)?
Please be aware that any special needs will not influence the selection process. The information is
used in order to be best prepared for making volunteers welcome, comfortable and safe.
I don’t have any.
The European Solidarity Corps program defines fewer opportunities as:
Individuals who for economic, social, cultural, geographical or health reasons, a migrant
background, or for reasons such as disability and educational difficulties or for any other reasons,
face various obstacles compared to their peers.
Based on this definition, do you consider yourself as having fewer opportunities? If yes, please
explain.
No, I don’t.
Your motivational letter:
In your own words, explain to us:
Why are you motivated to volunteer at this specific project?
What do you want to gain from participating? What are your plans afterwards?
What will the project get from selecting you as their volunteer?
I had a year when I was volunteering in hostels and that’s when I fell in love with being in an
international inveroment. I really enjoy talking to people from different countries and learning about
how life really is at other places. I feel like this opportunity would definitely help me with that. I am
especially interested in learning Danish language so maybe after the volunteering I could even stay
and work in the country. I moved to Belgium from Hungary because of a volunteering position I did
here and I fell in love with the place.
Also by joining this project, I’d love to get to know Danish culture and everyday life better. I’ve
visited Denmark once before for a short stay and really enjoyed it, which made me want to come
back and experience more. I would really love to volunteer in this project because the tasks fit very
well with my background and interests. Many of them are things I already have experience with,
and others are areas I’d be excited to learn more about.
Besides learning, I’d also love to share my own culture during my stay. I’d be happy to cook
traditional dishes, talk about where I come from, and share my language and cultural background
with others.
