Sensors

A sensor is a device that detects changes and events in a physical environment. It

may convert physical parameters like humidity, pressure, temperature, heat,
motion, etc., into electrical signals.
The signal can be converted into a human-readable display and sent across a
network for additional processing.

Active sensors and passive sensors are the two primary types of sensors.
1. Active sensors: Active sensors emit energy and measure the reflected or
scattered signal
2. Passive sensors: passive sensors detect the natural radiation or emission from
the target or the environment.

Types of Sensors
1. Temperature Sensor:
Devices which monitors and tracks the temperature and gives temperature’s
measurement as an electrical signal are termed as temperature sensors .These
electrical signals will be in the form of voltage and is directly proportional to the
temperature measurement.
Temperature sensors are devices that detect and measure coldness and heat and
convert it into an electrical signal.
Temperature sensors are utilized in our daily lives, be it in the form of domestic
water heaters, thermometers, refrigerators, or microwaves.
The advantages of using a mechanical temperature switch include their low cost,
ruggedness, simplicity of operation, and ability to function without a power source.

2. Humidity sensors
Humidity sensors are electronic devices that can measure the amount of moisture
or humidity in specific environments.
These sensors can take the gathered signals and transform them into data; where
an IoT device, software or app reads the information.
Humidity sensors are used in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning)
systems, automobiles, food processing systems, printers, and domestic appliances
such as refrigerators, ovens, agriculture and laundry machines.
This Sensors have many advantages, including their ability to provide real-time
data, their precision and accuracy, and their ability to work in harsh environments.

3. Gas Detector Sensor

A gas detector is a device that detects the presence of gases in an area, often as
part of a safety system.
A gas detector can sound an alarm to operators in the area where the leak is
occurring, giving them the opportunity to leave.
An example of this type of sensor is the oxygen sensor used in automobiles, and
solid electrolyte carbon dioxide sensors.
Advantages: simple structure, low price, high detection sensitivity, fast reaction
speed, etc.

4. Ultrasonic Sensor
An ultrasonic sensor is an instrument that measures the distance to an object using
ultrasonic sound waves.
Ultrasonic sensors are commonly used in devices such as motion detectors,
distance measuring devices, and level gauges.
Applications Using Ultrasonic Sensors-Roll diameter, tension control, winding, and
unwind, Liquid level control, Robotic sensing,Vehicle detection for car wash and
automotive assembly,Presence detection and etc.
Advantages of Ultrasonic sensor
1 Not affected by color or transparency of objects.
2 Can be used in dark environments.
3 Low-cost option.
4 Not highly affected by dust, dirt, or high-moisture environments.
5 Cannot work in a vacuum.

5. Fire Detector Sensor

A fire detector sensor is a device designed to detect the presence of fire or smoke
in an environment.
It plays a crucial role in fire safety by providing early warnings, allowing people to
evacuate the premises and facilitating a faster response from emergency services.
There are different types of fire detector sensors, each employing various
technologies to sense the presence of smoke, heat, or flames.
Fire detector sensor are used in Residential Buildings, Commercial Buildings,
Educational Institutions, Healthcare Facilities, Hotels and Hospitality
Advantages of fire detector sensor
1 Early Detection
2 Rapid Response
3 Life Safety
4 Integration with Fire Alarm Systems
5 Remote Monitoring

6. Infrared (IR) sensor

An Infrared (IR) sensor is a device that detects and measures infrared radiation in
its surrounding environment.
Infrared radiation lies beyond the visible spectrum of light, with wavelengths longer
than those of visible light.
IR sensors can detect this radiation and convert it into an electrical signal, providing
information about temperature, proximity, or the presence of objects.
Applications of IR Sensors-Healthcare,Robotics,Home Automation, Consumer
Electronics
Advantages of Infrared (IR) sensor
1 Energy Efficiency
2 Cost-Effective
3 Fast Response Time
4 Wide Range of Applications
5 Non-Contact Sensing

7. Light Sensor
A light sensor, also known as a photo sensor or photocell, is a device that detects
and measures the intensity or brightness of light in its surrounding environment.
Light sensors work by converting the incident light into an electrical signal, which
can then be used for various purposes. These sensors are widely used in different
applications, ranging from consumer electronics to industrial and scientific
instruments.
Applications of Light Sensors-Camera Exposure Control, Smart Home Systems,
Weather Stations, Electronic Displays.
Advantages of Light Sensors
1 Automation
2 Space Efficiency
3 Versatility
4 Energy Efficiency
