IB SL Math Year 10 - Trigonometry & Geometry Revision Notes

1. Trigonometry (Triangles)

SOH CAH TOA: sin = opp/hyp, cos = adj/hyp, tan = opp/adj

Cosine Rule: a² = b² + c² - 2bc cos A

Sine Rule: a/sinA = b/sinB = c/sinC

Area: 1/2 ab sin C

tan θ = height / distance

2. Trigonometric Graphs

y = a sin(bx) + c or y = a cos(bx) + c

Amplitude = |a|

Period = 360 / b

Midline = c

Max = c + a, Min = c - a

3. Straight Line Graphs

Gradient m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

Equation: y = mx + c

Angle: tan θ = m

4. Geometry

Triangle angles sum = 180°

Midpoint = ((x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2)

5. Area & Perimeter

Triangle Area = 1/2 ab sin C

Perimeter = sum of all sides

6. Key Exam Tips

Always set calculator to DEG mode

Draw diagram for word problems

Use correct formula (cosine vs sine rule)

Round answers properly
