It has seven steps (like climbing a ladder):

➢ Observe Reality/Experience → Notice what is happening.

➢ Select Data → Focus only on certain details.

➢ Add Meaning → Interpret based on personal beliefs/experience.

➢ Make Assumptions → Fill in gaps with guesses.

➢ Draw Conclusions → Decide what is "true."

➢ Adopt Beliefs → Form beliefs based on those conclusions.

➢ Take Action → Act according to those beliefs.

*Example of Ladder of Inference:-

Imagine a workplace situation:

Personality Development – Written Assignment

Reality: A manager walks past without saying hello.

Selected Data: I notice only that she didn't greet me.

Meaning: I think, "She ignored me."

Assumption: "Maybe she's upset with me."

Conclusion: "She must be unhappy with my work."

Belief: "My manager doesn't appreciate me."

Action: I avoid her and stop sharing ideas.

*In reality, the manager may have just been preoccupied with urgent work, not upset at all.
