Module Objectives
The aim of this module is to provide students with a foundational understanding of underlying
principles, calculations, and design criteria of Plant Safety, Health and Environment for the
process engineering industry so that students will be able to apply this knowledge to integrate the
Environmental and Health aspects to the process chemical processes.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this module, the student should be able to;
1. LO1 - Describe basic principles related to safety and loss prevention in chemical and process
industry
2. LO2-Understand environmental pollution and related problems
3. LO3- Describe environmental pollution control and management
4. LO4-Explain principles of sustainability
5. LO5-Discuss basics of safety in plant site layout design, operation, maintenance and modification
and basics of incident reporting, investigation and management and legislative framework.
6. LO6-Identify hazards in the chemical and process industry.
7. L07-Apply appropriate techniques or measures to avoid or reduce hazards
8. LO8-Analyse and evaluate hazards in chemical and process industry
