YouTube Marketing
Let’s talk about YouTube. Chances are we’ve all spent a wasted afternoon
watching one silly cat video after another.
YouTube has always been a source of retaining content, but it’s also
staking its claim as an essential tool for marketers. In fact, more than half
of all marketers (55%) use YouTube as part of their marketing strategy.
You may be thinking: “That’s great, but my audience isn’t on YouTube.
Well, think again.
One-quarter of internet users spend 10 hours or more watching videos,
and YouTube has more than two billion active users worldwide. The
platform is so extensive that it can be accessed in 76 different languages.

How Do You Do YouTube Marketing?
There’s a lot that goes into marketing your business on YouTube. In general,
here are the 5 most important steps:
1. Create a channel for your company
2. Plan out your video strategy
3. Upload high-quality videos designed to maximize Watch Time
4. Optimize videos around popular keywords
5. Promote new videos on off of YouTube
Create a YouTube channel
Create YouTube Channel
With a Google Account, you can watch and like videos and subscribe to
channels.
However, without a YouTube channel, you have no public presence on
YouTube.
Even if you have a Google Account, you need to create a YouTube channel
to upload videos, comment, or make playlists.
You can use a computer or the YouTube mobile site to create a new
channel.
Create a YouTube channel
Create YouTube Channel
1. Sign into an existing Google account, or create a new, dedicated
account specifically for your YouTube business account.
2. Once you’ve created your Google account make your way over to
YouTube’s homepage.
3. On the YouTube homepage, click on avatar icon within the top right
corner of the screen.
4. Click on “My channel” from the drop-down options.
5. For personal YouTube account creation, input your first and last name
into the required fields. For YouTube for Business account creation, click
“Use a business or other name” which will lead you to a screen where you
can enter brand’s name.
6. Click “Create” to activate your new YouTube account.

Channel icon and artwork
Before anyone actually views your video content, make sure that you’ve
crafted imagery for your channel that clicks with your brand. Just as you
have a dedicated icon and banner for the likes of Facebook or Twitter,
YouTube is no different.
The dimensions for YouTube images are as follows:
Channel icon: recommended as 800x800 pixels, displays as 98x98 pixels
Channel banner: 2,560x1440 pixels, safe area for mobile and web (without
text and logo cropping) is 1546x423 pixels.

Your YouTube channel is an extension of your brand, and it should be
treated as such. As you create and customize your channel, follow these
YouTube brand guidelines so you can properly establish your channel’s
identity and begin to attract subscribers.
Channel name: Your channel name is associated with every single video
you publish. Make sure it’s correct and consistent with your other social
media sites and overall branding.
Channel icon: Google recommends uploading an 800 x 800 px square or
round image. Your channel icon is similar to a Facebook profile picture.
This image will be used across all of your Google properties including
Gmail. Consider using a company logo or, if you are a public figure, a
professional headshot.
Brand visuals: Upload a 2560 x 1440 px image that will scale well across a
desktop, tablet, mobile, and TV.

Channel description: Your description should provide more information
on your company and explain what type of video content you plan on
sharing. Search engines look at your description when determining how to
rank your profile, so incorporate relevant keywords in your overview. We’ll
talk more about how to optimize specific video descriptions below.
Channel trailer: Your trailer should be short and sweet (around 30 to 60
seconds). Focus on showing visitors what your channel is about and what
they can expect to see in your videos. Your trailer won’t be interrupted by
ads, which will keep the user focused on why they should watch more
videos from your brand. At the end, don’t for get to encourage them to
subscribe.

Channel URL: Your channel may be eligible for a custom URL if you have
over 100 subscribers, a channel icon, channel art, and is more than 30
days old.
Channel Links: Link to all other social media accounts and relevant
websites from the “About” section of your channel. Make it easy for
subscribers to connect with you elsewhere.

Setting Permissions for Your YouTube
Brand Account
Before you start implementing your YouTube marketing plan, you should
decide who on your team will need access to the account. Granting access
to team members will allow them to help manage the channel through
their own Google accounts.
When you grant access to a Google account, there are three options for
roles:
Owner: Owners have full editing power over all company Google
properties. They can add or remove managers, edit business information,
respond to reviews, and more.
Manager: Managers have the same editing powers as Owners, except they
cannot add or remove page roles or remove listings. Anyone editing a
YouTube channel must be a Manager or an Owner.

Communications Manager: Communications Managers can respond to
reviews and do several other actions but they cannot use YouTube’s video
manager, upload content, or view analytics.

pay you, and at least to begin with, this will be done through an AdSense
account.
A few things you need to know about this, if you already have an AdSense
account, you can use that.
You can connect multiple channels to one AdSense account, and if you
haven’t got an AdSense account, you can set one up during the YouTube
