Comparison of Productivity Levels Between Coffee-drinkers
and Non-Coffee Drinkers Among Second-Year
Information Technology Students at
Cavite State University – Trece
Martires City Campus
A. Short Introduction
Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world and serves as a major
source of caffeine, a natural stimulant known to boost alertness, energy, and concentration.
However, coffee consumption may also result in negative effects such as insomnia and
headaches. Millions of people consume coffee and other caffeinated beverages daily to stay
awake, reduce fatigue, and improve focus. Despite ongoing debates about its health effects,
research indicates that moderate coffee intake can offer both advantages and potential risks
(Morales-Brown, 2025). Nevertheless, the effects of coffee consumption on productivity may vary
among individuals, as factors such as caffeine tolerance, consumption habits, and individual
differences can influence its impact.
This study aims to determine whether there is a significant difference in the productivity
levels of second-year BSIT students at Cavite State University–Trece Martires City by comparing
coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers. Productivity in this study is assessed in terms of the
respondents' ability to concentrate, task completion, and time management.
The findings of this study may provide valuable insights into the productivity levels of
college students with different coffee consumption habits. These findings may also serve as a
useful reference for students, educators, and future researchers interested in the differences in
productivity between coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers.
B. Research Gap
Most existing studies of coffee consumption and productivity have been conducted in
workplace settings involving employees, especially in demanding work environments requiring
rigorous work settings and high alertness. Limited research has explored whether coffee
consumption is associated with productivity among college students in academic settings but
rather tunneled on how coffee serves as a coping mechanism in focus groups, which includes
nurses, police officers, and journalists, towards sleep deprivation and pressure. Hence, this study
aims to address this gap by comparing the productivity of coffee-drinking and non-coffee-drinking
students (Pegado, 2022)
C. Statement of the Problem
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
a. Coffee Drinker/Non-Drinker
2. What is the level of productivity of the respondents based on:
a. Ability to concentrate
b. Task completion
c. Time management
3. Is there a significant difference in productivity between coffee drinkers and non-
drinkers among second-year Information Technology students at Cavite State
University – Trece Martires City Campus?
D. Scopes and Limitations
This study focused on comparing the productivity levels of coffee drinkers and non-coffee
drinkers among second-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students at
Cavite State University – Trece Martires City Campus. Specifically, it aimed to determine the
respondents' coffee consumption status and assess their perceived level of productivity through
a structured questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using appropriate statistical
methods to determine whether there was a significant difference in productivity between coffee
drinkers and non-coffee drinkers.
This study was limited to second-year BSIT students enrolled at Cavite State University –
Trece Martires City Campus during the Academic Year 2026–2027. Data were gathered through
self-reported responses using a structured questionnaire. The findings were limited to the
selected respondents and did not account for other factors that may influence productivity, such
as sleep quality, stress, health conditions, study habits, or the consumption of other caffeinated
beverages. Therefore, the results may not be generalized to students from other year levels,
programs, or institutions.
