This educational study guide covers fundamental concepts in physics, including Newton's Laws of Motion, which describe the relationship between forces and motion. It also explains the principle of conservation of energy, detailing kinetic and potential energy, and introduces the basics of thermodynamics, including the laws governing heat and energy transfers. The guide emphasizes key laws such as the Zeroth Law of thermodynamics and the principles of energy conservation and entropy.

SUBJECT: Physics Fundamentals & Core Mechanics

DOCUMENT TYPE: Educational Study Guide / Overview

1. Newton's Laws of Motion

Newton's laws form the foundation of classical mechanics, describing the relationship
between a body and the forces acting upon it.

- First Law (Law of Inertia): An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion continues
in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an
unbalanced force.
- Second Law (F = ma): The acceleration of an object depends directly upon the net force
acting upon the object and inversely upon the mass of the object.
- Third Law (Action & Reaction): For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

2. Conservation of Energy
Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only change form from one type to another.
- Kinetic Energy (KE): The energy of motion, dependent on mass and velocity squared.
- Potential Energy (PE): Stored energy based on an object's position relative to a
gravitational field or elasticity.

3. Fundamentals of Thermodynamics
Thermodynamics governs heat, work, and energy transfers.
- Zeroth Law: Establishes thermal equilibrium and defines temperature.
- First Law: Internal energy of an isolated system is constant (law of energy conservation).
- Second Law: Total entropy of an isolated system always increases over time.
