• Intercompany (IC): reconciliation, netting & settlement, resolving mismatches with counterparties.

Deductions/Disputes.
• Cash Application: matching payments to invoices, handling unapplied/unidentified cash, lockbox process.
• Accounts Receivable: ageing analysis (0-30/31-60/61-90+ buckets), DSO (Days Sales Outstanding), bad debt
provisioning.

• One-liner to remember: O2C = revenue collection lifecycle; R2R = books closure and reporting.
4. Likely Interview Questions & Model Answers
Process Questions
Walk me through the Period-End Close process. Pre-close prep → post journal entries/accruals → complete reconciliations
→ review Trial Balance → prepare reporting pack → obtain Controller
sign-off.
Difference between accrual and provision? Accrual = expense/income recognized but not yet invoiced, amount is
known. Provision = liability of uncertain timing or amount (e.g. bad debt
provision).
How do you handle an intercompany mismatch? Identify the discrepancy, contact the counterparty entity, trace the root
cause (timing difference, FX, missing entry), agree the correction, and post
it before close.
What makes a balance sheet account 'high risk'? Large value, volatile, and judgmental/manual entries — e.g. suspense or
accrual accounts — versus low-risk static accounts.
What is DSO and why does it matter? Days Sales Outstanding measures the average days taken to collect
receivables after a sale; lower DSO means faster cash collection and better
working capital.
Behavioral / Situational
Tell me about a time you met a tight month-end Use a brief STAR answer: the situation, the specific action you took to
deadline. prioritize/escalate, and the on-time result.
How do you handle escalation from a Financial Acknowledge promptly, investigate the root cause, communicate a clear
Controller? timeline, and close the loop with a resolution summary.
Are you comfortable working night shifts? Answer directly and confidently: 'Yes, I am fully flexible with rotational
and night shifts as required by the process.' This is a mandatory filter — do
not hedge.
Tools / Excel
Which Excel functions do you use most in VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, SUMIF/SUMIFS, and basic
reconciliation work? conditional formatting for flagging variances.
Which ERP/finance tools have you worked on? Mention any hands-on exposure — SAP, Oracle, Blackline, HFM, or
similar — even if from training or a prior role.
5. Smart Questions to Ask the Interviewer
• What does a typical monthly close cycle look like for this team/client?
• What tools and ERP systems does this process currently run on?
• What does the shift roster look like, and how often does it rotate?
• What growth path exists from this role within R2R/O2C over 2–3 years?
6. Final Reminders
• Lead with your own hands-on process walkthrough if experienced — interviewers value real workflow detail over
textbook definitions.
• If you're a fresher or have limited experience, anchor answers in core [Link]/[Link] concepts (journal entries, TB,
BRS) and show willingness to learn tools.
• Never hedge on shift flexibility or accountancy background — both are explicitly mandatory filters for this drive.
• Stay calm, structured, and specific — for every concept, be ready to explain it in 2–3 sentences with an example.
