Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was born on June 19, 1861 in
Calamba, Laguna.
He was the seventh of eleven children of Francisco Mercado Rizal and Teodora
Alonso Realonda.
Rizal grew up in a loving and educated family that influenced his passion for learning.

Rizal received his first education from his mother, Teodora Alonso, who taught him reading,
