MECH203 Practice

Week 7
Create Part File
• Sketch on right face
• Extruded Boss/Base → 60mm
• Use Mid Plane

2
Mirror
• Mirror for the bottom face

3
Sketch
• Make sketch along the right face
• Use 0mm Offset Entities

4
Extrude with Draft
• Extrude the sketch with draft
• Extrude → 20mm
• Draft → 30°

5
Mirror
• Mirror for the right face

6
Extruded Cut
• Sketch on top face
• Sketch larger than the 3D part
• Extruded Cut → Through All

7
Draft
• Features → Draft
• Choose faces as shown, Draft angle → 3°
• Pay attention to the direction

8
Sketch, Linear Pattern
• Linear Pattern → 30mm

9
Extruded Cut
• 10mm

10
Shell
• Thickness → 1.5mm
• Choose faces as shown

11
Shell
• Shell result

12
Reference Geometry
• Offset 10mm from top face

13
Sketch
• Sketch on reference plane
• Centerline inside the shell

14
Rib
• Thickness → both sides, 1.5mm
• Extrusion direction → Normal to sketch
• Draft → draft outward, 3°

15
Fillet
• Full round fillet
• Choose three sides sequentially

16
Color and Rendering

17
Apply Color
• Click the face you want to color – Appearance – select from face, cell, body, or part, then apply the
color.

18
Apply Material
• Left tree – Right-click on Material – Edit Material – Select desired material – Apply

19
Rendering
• Background

Single color
Gradient
Use image as background
Use environment as background

20
Photoview 360
• SolidWorks Add-ins – Photoview 360 – Final Rendering
• Photoview 360 does not work for SolidWorks 2024 or higher

21
Photoview 360
• SolidWorks Add-ins – Photoview 360 – Preview Window

22
Photoview 360
• Background and rendering brightness • Environment rotation

23
Lofted Boss/Base

24
Lofted Boss/Base

25
Sketch and Reference Geometry
• Select the top face and sketch an ellipse
• Create Reference Plane 1 at 70 mm above the top face
• Create Reference Plane 2 at 140 mm above the top face

26
Sketch on Reference Geometry
• Sketch on reference plane 1 • Sketch on reference plane 2

27
Lofted Boss/Base
• Select sketches in order starting from the bottom face
– The order of selected sketches is important
– The selected point within each sketch is important (select one endpoint)
– Thin Feature, Mid-Plane, 2 mm

28
Lofted Boss/Base
• Guide curves
– Drawing cross sections across multiple layers is time consuming
– Therefore, use guide curves to create the desired shape with fewer cross sections
– Select the front face to use guide curves
– Select free curves to draw a curved sketch

29
Lofted Boss/Base
• Lofted Boss/Base
– Select the sketches drawn on the bottom in order, just like before
– Select guide curves

• Select each sketch you drew

• Thin Feature, Mid-Plane, 2 mm

30
Lofted Boss/Base
• Block bottom face
– Make sketch along bottom face and extrude inside 2mm

• Color the object (optional)

31
Homework #6
• Create a flower + flowerpot
• Freely set size and shape (does not have to match the example; must use Sweep / Shell / Loft)
• Change color and perform rendering
• Submit part file and rendered image file

Use Sweep tool

(stem)

Use Shell tool

(flowerpot)
Use the Loft tool
(flowerpot)

32
Homework #6

• Ex) HW6_2025xxxx_이름_Part
• Ex) HW6_2025xxxx_이름_Render

• 과제 채점 기준
– 만점: 10점
– 사용하지 않거나 부적절하게 사용된 tool (Sweep / Shell / Loft): 1 점씩 감점

• Freely design and render the shape of a flower and flowerpot
• Submit part file and rendered image to PLMS
– Submission deadline: Before next week's midterm
– Extended deadline: Before the lab session two weeks later
– 50% deduction for late submission (0 points if not submitted, so submission within the deadline is required)
