1. Why didn’t the scientists think of quitting the
stressful job?
Answer: The scientists did not think of quitting
because they were loyal to their boss and dedicated
to the important project.
2. Why did the scientist begin work with a light
heart?
Answer: The scientist began work with a light heart
because his boss had given him permission to leave
the office at 5:30 p.m. to take his children to the
exhibition.
3. What happened when the scientist was working?
Answer: The scientist became completely
engrossed in his work and forgot the time as well as
his promise to take his children to the exhibition.
4. Did the scientist have words of justification for
himself? Why?
Answer: No, the scientist had no words of
justification because he realized he had forgotten
his promise to his children due to being fully
absorbed in his work.
5. What did the boss do?
Answer: The boss went to the scientist’s house, took
his children to the exhibition, and fulfilled the
scientist’s promise.
6. What is the legacy left behind by the People’s
President?
Answer: Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam left behind a legacy
of optimism, positivity, humility, hard work, and
inspiring people to dream big and achieve their
goals.
C. Reflect and answer
1. If you were the scientist, what excuse would you
have given to justify forgetting about the promise?
Elaborate.
Answer: I would say that I was completely absorbed
in an important project and unintentionally forgot
the time. I would sincerely apologise to my children
and promise to manage my time better in the future.
2. If you were the boss, what else could you have
done? Give reasons for your answer.
Answer: I would have reminded the scientist about
his promise before 5:30 p.m. or asked another
colleague to remind him. This would have helped
him balance both his professional and family
responsibilities.
3. What values are implied in this story? Why do you
think they are important?
Answer: The story teaches humility, kindness,
responsibility, leadership, empathy, honesty, and
keeping promises. These values are important
because they help us become responsible, caring,
and trustworthy individuals.
