Health Problems

The document discusses the debate between prioritizing scientific research on global health issues versus environmental problems. While some argue that environmental issues significantly impact health, the author believes that focusing on world health can lead to direct improvements in human well-being, as evidenced by advancements like COVID-19 vaccines. Ultimately, the author asserts that addressing global health problems should take precedence in research efforts.

Topic: Some people think scientific research should focus on solving world health

problems. Others think that there are more important issues. Discuss both views
and give your opinion.

Over the past decade, human health has evolved as a major topic of concern in modern
society. While some people contend that a huge amount of effort and time should be
spent on the research of environmental problems, i strongly believe that it is better to
devote these resources to solving global health issues.

On the one hand, one might argue that environmental issues should receive a great
deal of attention from researchers rather than global health problems. Granted,
environmental pollution is the major cause of many dangerous respiratory diseases,
such as lung cancer, or asthma. In addition, only a minor change in the environment
would have a significant negative effect on human life. For example, with a slight rise
in the temperature, mosquitoes can expand their range and feed on migratory birds. As
a consequence, these birds will transfer a disease to many other countries. However, in
fact, the environment is only one of many causes that can take a toll on people’s
health, besides infectious, genetic, or lifestyle causes. Therefore, solving
environmental issues would certainly not have a substantial impact on human health.

On the other hand, it seems to me that it will be better if funds are channeled into the
study and research addressing the world health problems, which can directly improve
human health in a discernible way. Given that there are several incurable diseases still
existing in society, a new medical scientific invention for the treatment of lethal
diseases can save millions of lives. For example, in the light of covid-19 pandemic,
the discovery of vaccines has played a vital role in mitigating the effects of the virus
and recovering the economy. In addition, scientific research on global health also
provides scientists and doctors useful knowledge, experience for the prevention of
other pandemics in the future.

In conclusion, although it has been argued that environmental issues are important and
should be addressed urgently, i firmly assert that scientific research should focus on
tackling world health problems.
