Road Design Guide
1. Planning
Define road purpose, traffic, design speed, constraints.
2. Survey
Reconnaissance, preliminary, and detailed surveys using GNSS, Total Station, and levels.
3. Horizontal Alignment
Design tangents, circular curves, and transition curves considering speed, radius, and sight
distance.
4. Vertical Alignment
Design gradients and crest/sag curves with safe stopping sight distance.
5. Cross Section
Typical lane width 3.0–3.65 m; shoulders 1.5–2.5 m; suitable crossfall.
6. Earthworks
Calculate cut/fill volumes and mass haul from cross sections.
7. Drainage
Design side drains, culverts, and cross drainage structures.
8. Pavement
Layers: asphalt surface, base, subbase, compacted subgrade.
9. Safety
Signs, markings, guardrails, lighting, pedestrian facilities.
10. Civil 3D Workflow
Import survey → Surface → Alignment → Profile → Assembly → Corridor → Sections → Volumes
→ Drawings.
