EEN-324L– Digital Signal Processing Lab
Design Project
Submission Deadline: 11-Jan-2025 This project is worth 30% of total marks
Instructions: If Al tools are used for understanding any portion of the project, the prompt used
and the exact response should be attached as an appendix to the report, referenced in the report.
You must not claim anyone else's work as your own.
In this project, your goal is to apply digital signal processing techniques to solve an audio
processing challenge.
Objective
Design and implement a signal processing system in MATLAB that solves problems related to
audio processing. You may choose a project from the provided list, or come with your own idea
(that must be discussed with the instructor first).
Code must be written using digital signal processing concepts only. Use of machine learning
models is not allowed
Tasks:
1. Signal Acquisition/ Generation
Collect 15 audio/speech signals, suitable for the chosen task. For synthesis-based projects at
least 15 different signals must be synthesized as a result of the project.
2. Algorithm Development
Develop an algorithm using MATLAB for the required task. You must provide a detailed
block diagram explaining the algorithm.
3. User Interface Development
Design a user-friendly interface. Graphical interface is preferred; however command-based
interface is allowed as long as it has all functionalities required.
4. Report Writing
Prepare a formal project report that documents the entire work.
5. Presentation
Prepare presentation slides that provide a concise summary of the report for delivery during
the oral presentation.
Deliverables:
1. Signals Dataset
A collection of real-world, and noisy signals prepared for analysis or synthesis in DSP
experiments.
2. Algorithm source file
You must write the core DSP algorithm yourselves; Internet or AI tools may be used for non-
critical parts.
3. A detailed block diagram or flowchart
A clear block diagram or flowchart illustrating the complete algorithm or processing steps
followed by the student, showing how the system produces results.
4. Report
A concise report containing information about the following (in addition to general formalities
like cover page, etc.)
• Background
• The chosen problem domain, along with the type of inputs
• Possible algorithms for the chosen problem domain and their advantages/disadvantages
• Your algorithm and its working
• Results and discussion
• Limitations/ assumptions
• At least 2 'wrong' outputs
• Suggestions for improvement
• Conclusion
5. Presentation
