PRANAVAHA SROTAS
Definition
The essential pathway for gaseous exchange within the body.

महा ोतश्च ।"
(Hridaya and Mahasrotas).
रसवा हन्यश्च
Sushruta: "हृदयं रसवा हन्यश्च धमन्यः
धमन्यः ।" (Hridaya and Rasavahini Dhamanis).
Causes of Vitiation

Kṣayāt: Depletion of dhātus.
Samdhāraṇāt: Suppression of natural urges (vega).
Raukṣyāt: Intake of excessive dry food/activities
Vyāyāmāt: Excessive physical exertion
Ksudhitasya: Engaging in activity while hungry.
Anyaiśca Dāruņaih: Other severe trauma.

Signs of Vitiation (Caraka)

Abnormal breathing: Excessively frequent or obstructed/labored,
shallow/interrupted, accompanied by pain or wheezing sounds.
Signs of Injury (Suśruta)

Vinamana: Involuntary bending
Mohana: Loss of consciousness/delusion.
Vepanāni: Tremors.

DOSA VITIATION & CLINICAL CORRELATIONS


Dosa Vitiation Summary ;

Kṣayāt: Primary Vāta aggravation due to tissue depletion.


Samdhāraņāt: Blockage in Prāņa flow, vitiating Vāta.
Raukṣyāt: Rūkṣa (dry) quality inherently aggravates Vāta.
Vyāyāmāt: Increases Vāta; extreme exertion may involve
Pitta
Kşudhitasya: Leads to Agni mandya and Ama formation, affecting Kapha or Vāta.

Modern Clinical Correlations


Kṣayāt: Wasting diseases, TB, COPD, Cachexia, ILD/Pulmonary fibrosis.
Samdhāraṇāt: Atelectasis, Aspiration Pneumonia, restricted diaphragm
movement
Rauksyāt: Chronic Bronchitis, Bronchiectasis, Cystic Fibrosis, airway
irritation.
Vyāyāmāt: Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB), Asthma,
Cardiac Asthma, Angina.
Kşudhitasya: Hypoglycemic hyperventilation, GERD-induced asthma, micro-aspiration.
