Chapter 3
A trip to Bhopal
Introduction- The chapter is related to a school trip of students from Hoshangabad city to Bhopal city.
This is an interesting chapter and has questions based on the four basic mathematical operations.
Q-1. A school is going on a trip from different classes of III to V. In the given chart, the number of
students are given. Find out the total number of students.
Class Number of students
I 33
II 32
III 42
IV 50
V 53
Ans: - 210 students are going to the trip.
Q-2. Find out how many buses are required for 210 children if one bus can carry 50 students.
Ans: - Total number of students = 20
Number of students one bus can carry = 50
Total number of buses = 210 ÷ 50 = 4 buses and 10 children
So, 10 children will get left.
Q-3 If one mini-bus can carry 35 students at a time, then how many buses are required for 210 children
and how many children will get left?
1st method:
And: - Total number of children = 210
Number of children one bus can carry = 35
Total number of buses = 210 ÷ 35 = 6
6 mini buses will be required for 210 and 0 children will be left.
2nd method:
210 – 35 = 175
175 – 35 = 140
140 – 35 = 105
105 – 35 = 70
35 – 35 = 0
Q – 4 Cost of 100 litres diesel is Rs. 3500. Find out the cost of: -
a) 1 litre diesel
Ans: -Cost of 100 litres of diesel = Rs. 3500
Cost of 1 litre of diesel = 3500 ÷ 100 = Rs. 35
b) 15 litre diesel
Ans: - Cost of 100 litres of diesel = Rs. 3500
Cost of 15 litres of diesel = 3500 ÷ 15 = Rs. 525
c) 20 litre diesel
Ans: - Cost of 100 litres of diesel = Rs. 3500
Cost of 20 litres of diesel = 35 × 2 = Rs. 700
d) 30 litre diesel
Ans: - Cost of 100 litres of diesel = Rs. 3500
Cost of 20 litres of diesel = 35 × 30 = Rs. 1050
e) 30 and a half (1/2 litre)
Ans: - Cost of 30 l diesel = Rs. 1050
Cost of ½ litre diesel = ½ × 35 = 17.5
Cost of 30 and a half litre diesel = 1050 + 17.5 = Rs. 1067.5
Q – 5. The buses start moving from Hoshangabad to Bhopal at 9:00 a.m. They will reach in 2 hours. At
what time will they reach?
Ans: - Bus started at = 9:00 a.m.
Duration of journey = 2 hours
The bus will reach Bhopal at 11:00 a.m.
Q – 6. Look at the table and answer the following questions:
Name of boat Ticket Price Trip time
Double-decker Rs. 30 45 mins
Paddle boat Rs. 15 30 mins
Motor boat Rs. 25 20 mins
Boat with oars Rs. 15 45 mins
a) Indra and Bhanu first went into motor boat and then took the oar- boat. How much did they pay
for both the boats?
Ans: - Price of the motor boat = Rs. 25
Price of the oar boat = Rs. 15
Money paid by Indra and Bhanu = 2 × 25 = Rs. 50 and 2 × 15 = Rs. 30
Total money paid = 50 + 30 = Rs. 80
Indra and Bhanu paid Rs. 80
b) One group of children went for the double-decker ship. They paid Rs. 450 in total. How many
children went for the double decker trip?
Ans: - Money paid in all = Rs. 450
Ticket Price of double decker = Rs. 30
Number of students went on the trip = 450/30 = 15
15 children went on the double decker boat
c) Which boat makes 2 trips in 1 hour?
Ans: - Paddle boat
d) Which boat takes less than half an hour to complete the trip?
Ans: - Motor boat
e) Which boat gives them the most times taking the least money?
Ans: - Boat with oars
f) Javed went twice for boating. He paid a total of Rs. 40 and boated for 30 minutes. Which two
boats did he take?
Q – 7. Children enjoy different boat rides till 4 o’clock. It is time to return, now they will not stop
anywhere
Ans: - Time of returning = 4:00 p.m.
Duration = 2 hours
Time by which they will reach Hoshangabad = 6:00 p.m.
Q – 8. 210 children go for a trip. Each child is given 1 orange, 1 banana and 5 biscuits. 38 children do not
take bananas. How many oranges, bananas and biscuits were distributed?
