Question 1 (Composition)

(i) A Short Story in which a Dog, a Baby and a Clown play

Important Roles
The Brave Dog

Last Sunday, my family visited a fair. My little cousin, Riya, who was only two years old, was
with us. She was excited to see the colourful balloons and merry-go-rounds. A funny clown was
entertaining everyone by juggling balls and making children laugh.

While everyone was watching the clown, Riya quietly wandered away. Suddenly, we realized
that she was missing. We searched everywhere but could not find her. Panic spread among us.

At that moment, a stray dog started barking loudly near a food stall. The clown noticed the dog's
unusual behaviour and followed it. To everyone's surprise, the dog was standing beside Riya,
who had been crying because she could not find her parents.

The clown gently picked up the baby and announced through the loudspeaker that a little girl
had been found. Within minutes, our family reached the spot. We hugged Riya with tears of joy.

The crowd applauded the clever dog and the kind-hearted clown. The fair manager rewarded
the dog with biscuits and gave the clown a special prize for his presence of mind.

That day I learnt that heroes are not always superheroes. Sometimes, a loyal dog and a
cheerful clown can save the day.

(ii) Narrate an Incident When You Got Lost

Lost Without My Phone

Nowadays we depend completely on our smartphones for directions. I realised how risky this
could be during a trip to Kolkata.

While returning from a museum, my phone suddenly switched off because its battery had died. I
had no charger with me. Since I had never visited that area before, I soon lost my way.

At first, I became nervous. Then I remembered my parents' advice to stay calm during
emergencies. I walked to a nearby police assistance booth and explained my problem. The
officer asked for the address of my hotel. Fortunately, I had written it in my notebook.

The officer showed me the correct route and helped me board the right bus. He also allowed me
to make a phone call to my parents. They were relieved to know that I was safe.
Soon I reached the hotel without any difficulty.

The incident taught me an important lesson. Technology is useful, but we should never depend
on it completely. We should always carry important addresses, emergency contact numbers and
some cash while travelling.

(iii) There Should be an Unemployment Allowance for the

Qualified but Unemployed
For the Motion

Unemployment is one of the biggest problems faced by educated young people today. Many
qualified candidates remain jobless despite having good degrees and skills.

An unemployment allowance can provide temporary financial support. It will help unemployed
people pay for food, transport and further training while they search for jobs. This support will
reduce stress and help them prepare better for interviews and competitive examinations.

Moreover, many talented students come from poor families. Without financial assistance, they
may be forced to take unsuitable jobs or discontinue their studies. An allowance will help them
maintain their dignity until they find suitable employment.

However, strict rules should be followed. Only genuinely unemployed and qualified people
should receive the allowance. They should also register with employment exchanges and
actively search for work.

The allowance should not encourage laziness. Instead, it should be linked with
skill-development programmes.

In conclusion, unemployment allowance is a helpful temporary measure. Along with job creation
and skill development, it can provide hope and security to deserving unemployed youth.

(iv) Describe How You Accomplished a Difficult Task

Winning My Fear

Public speaking was always my greatest fear. Whenever I stood before an audience, I became
nervous and forgot everything.

One day, my teacher encouraged me to participate in an inter-school speech competition. At

first, I wanted to refuse. However, my parents and teachers motivated me to try.

I practised every day in front of a mirror. Later, I delivered my speech before my family and
classmates. They corrected my mistakes and boosted my confidence. I also learnt breathing
techniques to control my nervousness.

On the day of the competition, I was anxious. But I remembered my hard work and stepped onto
the stage confidently. I spoke clearly and maintained eye contact with the audience.

When the results were announced, I won the second prize. Although I had not come first, I felt
proud because I had conquered my greatest fear.

This experience taught me that determination, regular practice and self-confidence can help us
achieve even the most difficult goals.

(v) Picture Composition

Plant a Tree, Save the Earth

The picture shows a young boy planting a sapling in a garden. He is carefully placing soil
around the plant and watering it. His expression shows love and responsibility towards nature.

Trees are one of the greatest gifts of nature. They give us oxygen, fruits, medicines and shade.
They also prevent soil erosion, reduce pollution and provide shelter to birds and animals.

Today, rapid urbanisation and deforestation have disturbed the balance of nature. As a result,
global warming and climate change have become serious problems.

Children can play an important role in protecting the environment. By planting trees and taking
care of them, they contribute to a greener and healthier planet. Schools and communities
should organise tree plantation drives regularly.

The boy in the picture reminds us that every small effort counts. One tree may seem
insignificant, but millions of people planting millions of trees can transform the world.

Let us all promise to plant at least one tree every year and protect nature for future generations.

To
The Librarian
Holy Angel Public School
Rajnagar, Birbhum

Subject: Request for Multiple Copies of a Reference Book

Sir/Madam,
I am a student of Class X of your school. Recently, a new reference book has been included in
our curriculum. Unfortunately, there is only one copy of this book in our school library.

As many students need the book for assignments and examination preparation, it is difficult for
everyone to use it. We often have to wait for several days to borrow the book.

I, therefore, request you to kindly arrange for several more copies of the reference book. This
will greatly benefit all the students and help us prepare better for our studies.

I shall be grateful for your kind consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Imtaj Khan
