Cable Protection Method

The document outlines the cable protection methods for the Gongshan Primary School project, detailing excavation procedures to safeguard existing telecommunication cables. Key measures include maintaining a safe distance during excavation, using protective materials, and ensuring qualified personnel oversee the operations. Additional protocols for crossing cables perpendicularly are also specified, emphasizing manual excavation and immediate backfilling to support the cables.

TELECOMMUNICATION CABLE PROTECTION METHOD

Project : GONGSHAN PRIMARY SCHOOL

I. GONGSHAN PRIMARY SITE MAP

II. CABLE PROTECTION METHOD

For cable running parallel with the existing telecommunication cable, the following method will be followed
on site:

1. Excavation will be done at least 1.0m away from the existing telecom cable measured from the
exposed section by trial hole that has been done beforehand.
2. To put metal plate on the area above where the telecom cable is located to protect the cable from
heavy machinery pressure.
3. To put protection sheet on the side of the excavated trench nearest to the cable to protect against
sideways soil movement.
4. If the existing cable is too near to the excavation work area, do manual excavation instead of
machinery to prevent any damage to the telecom cable.
5. All excavation machinery should only be operated by Registered Excavator Operator (REO).
6. All excavation operations should be supervised by Registered Excavation Supervisor (RES).
7. Ensure that Cable Plan and Cable Detection Report are available on site to enable spot checking
on location of the cable.
8. Implement PTW near any sensitive excavation area to properly track and control the excavation
works.

For crossing of the cable perpendicular to the work site, all of the above methods will be followed with the
additional below method to be implemented on site:

9. Determine the depth of the cable from the trial hole. Once the depth of the existing cable has
been determined, determine the depth of the pipe to under cross the existing cable.
10. Our pipe will undercrossed the existing cable about 1m deeper below the existing cable.
11. During the tunneling works, to excavate manually the soil above the telecom cable and to support
the soil / cable slab / cable haunching from below to prevent the sagging of the cable.
12. Once the tunneling works has been completed, to backfill the excavated site immediately and
ensure the telecom cable is supported from below.
