G+1 Residential/Commercial Building Engineering

Proposal
Dimension: 10m × 20m (Total Area: 200 m²) | Slab Type: Cast-in-situ Solid Slab

1. Project Executive Summary

This document outlines the structural configuration, architectural space planning, and preliminary engineering
specifications for a Ground plus One (G+1) storey building. The layout is optimized for a rectangular 10 × 20 meter plot,
featuring a robust cast-in-situ reinforced concrete solid slab system to maximize structural rigidity, acoustic insulation,
and fire resistance.

2. Architectural Space Allocation

The 200 m² footprint is strategically partitioned utilizing an efficient grid system to minimize structural spans and
material costs.

Ground Floor Plan Allocation

Ground Floor Space Dimensions (m) Functional Description

Verandah / Entrance 4.0 × 2.0 Main entry foyer and waiting zone.

Living & Dining Room 6.0 × 5.0 Spacious open-plan lounge area.

Kitchen & Pantry 4.0 × 3.5 Equipped with service access door.

Guest Bedroom 3.5 × 4.0 Self-contained suite with attached toilet.

Common Bathroom 2.0 × 2.0 Strategic central location under stairwell zone.

Staircase Case Bay 2.5 × 4.5 Dog-legged reinforced concrete staircase.

First Floor Plan Allocation

First Floor Space Dimensions (m) Functional Description

Master Bedroom (En-suite) 5.0 × 4.5 Includes walk-in closet, master bath & front balcony access.

Bedroom 2 4.0 × 3.5 Standard double bedroom with built-in wardrobe wardrobes.

Bedroom 3 3.5 × 4.0 Rear bedroom adjacent to common bathroom facilities.

Family Lounge 4.5 × 5.0 Private upper-tier living area for family gatherings.

Common Bathroom 2.0 × 2.0 Shared sanitation facilities for Bedrooms 2 and 3.

Balcony (Front Facing) 10.0 × 1.5 Cantilevered concrete slab extending from frontage.
3. Engineering & Structural Specifications
The structure is engineered as a Reinforced Concrete (RC) Moment Resisting Frame. The use of a 150mm thick solid
slab provides exceptional bidirectional load distribution, reducing lateral deflection and enhancing safety against seismic
and wind pressures.

3.1 Foundation & Grid Matrix

• Grid Setup: 4 columns along the 10m width (spaced at 3.33m average) & 5 columns along the 20m length
(spaced at ~5.0m average). Total column count = 20 structural columns.
• Foundation Type: Isolated pad footings (typically 1.8m × 1.8m at a depth of 1.5m, depending on local soil bearing
capacity tests).

Structural Member Dimensions / Thickness Reinforcement Estimate (Typical)

Columns (Ground to Roof) 300mm × 300mm 4 nos × Y16 main bars; Y10 stirrups @ 150mm c/c

Plinth & Floor Beams 300mm × 450mm Top: 3 nos Y16, Bottom: 3 nos Y16; Y10 links @
150mm

First Floor Solid Slab 150mm depth Y10 @ 150mm c/c (Main & Distribution bars)

Roof Slab (Solid Concrete) 120mm depth Y10 @ 200mm c/c spacing both ways

3.2 Solid Slab Structural Notes

A two-way cast-in-place solid slab is chosen because the aspect ratio of the structural bays (5.0m / 3.33m = 1.5) is less
than 2.0. This ensures optimized moment distribution along both axes.

• Concrete Grade: M25 grade concrete (25 N/mm² characteristic compressive strength).
• Steel Grade: Fe500 High-Yield Strength Deformed (HYSD) bars.
• Clear Cover: 20mm clear concrete cover maintained for all slab reinforcements to ensure durability and fire
protection up to 2 hours.

4. Recommended Construction Sequence

1. Earthwork & Excavation: Site clearance, excavation for isolated footings to required firm strata depth.

2. Substructure Construction: Casting of PCC (Plain Cement Concrete) mud-mat, fixing footing mesh, erecting
column starters, and casting footings.

3. Plinth Level Beam Casting: Backfilling soil, tieing plinth beams, and laying a 100mm ground floor PCC slab over a
vapor barrier.

4. Superstructure Columns: Erecting and casting Ground floor structural RC columns up to the first floor beam bottom
level.

5. Formwork & Shuttering for First Floor: Placing waterproof ply shuttering supported by heavy-duty steel props for
beams and the 150mm solid slab.

6. Bar Bending & Conduits: Laying beam reinforcement cage, arranging slab bottom mesh, placing
electrical/plumbing conduits, and setting top negative reinforcement chairs.

7. Monolithic Concrete Pour: Continuous pour of M25 concrete across the beam-slab framework, followed by
mechanical needle vibration.

8. Curing Process: Pond curing for a minimum of 14 consecutive days to ensure structural design strength is reached.

9. Repeat Sequence: Follow the identical framing sequence for First floor columns and the top roof slab.
