Step‑by‑Step Guide (for students)
Quick overview
eFRRO is the online portal for Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) services
in India.
Typical student uses: registration on arrival, extension of stay, address intimation,
change of course or institute.
What you'll need before starting
These documents are necessary unless specifically mentioned as optional:
Passport (main page scan)
Visa (visa page + arrival stamp)
Passport-size Photo (must be less than 50 KB)
Residence Proof — Form C (submitted by your hostel/landlord; mandatory for
registration)
Bonafide Certificate from your university/institute
Undertaking Form (if required by your university or FRRO)
Financial Resource Proof / Funding Letter (Optional — only if requested)
Also required:
Valid email ID (will be your login username)
STEP 1
Registration:
Open the eFRRO portal at [Link]/efrro.
Use Chrome or Edge on desktop for best results.
Click Register to create a new account or User Login if you already have one.
Select “Register”

New Registration:
Email ID: Enter your active email. This will be your User ID.
Mobile Number:
Clarification: The form asks for an Indian mobile number. If you have one, enter it.
Don't have a number? It is not necessary. You can proceed without it. The OTP sent to your
Email is sufficient to verify the account.
Add your personal E-mail ID
Not Necessary if You Donot have the Number
Click “Get OTP”

Filling the Profile:
Fill all required fields: Surname, Given name, Nationality, Gender, Date of Birth
(DD/MM/YYYY) exactly as they appear in your passport.
Password: Create a strong password (e.g., Student@IITM2025).
Enter OTP: Check your email for the code (K4HUCG) and enter it.
Write down the correct Captcha
Submit to create the account.

Logging In & Starting the Application
Login URL: Go to [Link]
Login with your Username (Email is the User ID) and Password.

Copy the Captcha and select Sign In.

FRRO Registration:
You will now enter the eFRRO dashboard.
Click My Application.

Start a New FRRO Application
From the dashboard, click “New Application”.
Select create a new one or Existing one if you have a pending application

Fill Basic Details:
Fill only what is asked and exactly as per passport:
Surname
Given Name
Gender
Are you foreign national holding diplomatic or official or service passport? NO
Present Nationality
FRRO State & Office : Tamil Nadu
City/District (current location) : Chennai
FRRO/FRO Office : FRRO Chennai
Please select the service you desired : REGISTATION
Do not select any other service unless instructed by the university

The portal may show a pop-up stating:
"Children below the age of 12 years are exempted from FRRO/FRO registration…"
➡️Select “Yes” to continue and proceed with the application.

Passport, Visa & Arrival Details Tab
This section must match your passport and visa exactly. Do not guess any values.
A. Passport Details
Fill details exactly as printed in your passport:
Passport Number: Enter passport number (no spaces)
Country of Issue: Select the country that issued your passport
Place of Issue: Enter the city/place mentioned in passport
Date of Issue: As per passport (DD/MM/YYYY)
Expiry Date: As per passport (DD/MM/YYYY)

B. Current Visa Details
Refer to your Indian visa page:
Visa Number: As printed on visa.
Country of Issue: Country where visa was issued.
Place of Issue: City mentioned on visa.
Date of Issue: Visa issue date.
Expiry Date: Visa validity end date.
Visa Type: Select Student / Research.
Visa Subtype: Select the Subtype mentioned in the Visa.
Valid For: No. of Entries.
C. Arrival Details (India Entry)
Fill details based on your travel to India:
Place of Embarkation: Airport/city where you boarded the flight to India
City of Embarkation: City name
Country of Embarkation: Country name

Mode of Journey: Select Air (most students)
Place of Disembarkation / Arrival in India: Chennai airport.
Purpose of Visit to India: Select Study / Research / Internship / Education.
✔️Ensure dates are consistent across passport, visa, and arrival stamp.
No need to fill anything that is not marked ( * ).
Click Save & Continue

This is your current place of stay in India.
For IIT Madras students, fill as follows:

Registration and Accompanying
A. Previous Registration in India
Have you registered previously in India? → Select No (for first-time students)
If you have registered earlier, select Yes and enter details if prompted.
B. Family Members / Attendant / Dependents
If accompanying you? → Select No (most students)
Select Yes only if family members are travelling and staying with you in India.

This section confirms the type of FRRO registration you are applying for.
Are you registered in current locality FRRO/FRO in the current visit? → Always No
S-Form Registration No.: The Number will be given by OGE Office after form C is done.
Student in India Portal ID: Leave blank (if not available)
Registration Type (Q1):
Select Whether the applicant foreign national intends to seek final registration
✔️ Do not select provisional registration unless specifically instructed.
Click Save & Continue

Upload Documents
Upload the required documents one by one by clicking the upload icon.
Mandatory Documents:
[Link] – Passport size, clear background, file size less than 50 KB
[Link] Proof – Form C (mandatory issued by Hostel/Place of Stay)
[Link] Certificate – Issued by OGE, IIT Madras
[Link] – Bio page (PDF/JPG)
[Link] – Visa page
[Link] – Undertaking Form (mandatory Issued by OGE Office)
Optional Document:
Financial Resource Proof – Funding / Scholarship letter (if available)
✔️ Ensure all files are clear, readable, and correctly uploaded.
✔️ Upload status must change from ❌ to ✔️ before submission.
Then select Submit

Final Submission
Review all sections carefully
Ensure all mandatory documents show successful upload
Click Submit
After submission:
Note down the Application ID
Track status under My Applications
Respond promptly if FRRO raises any clarification
Mail the FRRO Certificate once received to the OGE office
