QUESTIONNAIRE

Ques.1What made you consider HR as a profession?

Answer:

 Quite an adaptive person to the point that these different environments

which are basically challenges excite you and will motivate you to work
harder and make the whole process in all interesting.
 Believe that have quite a good understanding of the human psychology
and the leadership skills to be able to help them adapt and guide them.
 With this field becoming more and more important and therefore a good
salary was also one of yours deciding point.

Ques.2 Can you describe your management style?

Answer:

 Focus on Professional and Personal Development of the employee as you

feel it is a vital part of your job to learn more about them outside the work
environment
 Healthy and fun environment for the employees
 Have always tried to create a safe space for the employees so as to
approach you and share their grievances
 Have tried to keep in touch with them at regular intervals so that they feel
prioritized

Ques.3As an HR manager, how do you deal effectively with the challenges within
a team you are leading?

Answer: Subjective:-Quote an incident and your method to solve it

Basic Points:

 Identify the root cause of the issue by talking not just to the aggrieved
party but to every member of your team.
 Try to bring the concerned parties together to the table for a discussion.
 Use your counseling skills during the talk so the team can reach a peaceful
solution and go on to achieve their work effectively.

Ques.4 Do you believe the phrase “A good recruit can make fortunes for the
company, while a bad recruit can cost fortunes for the company” to be true?
Elaborate.

Answer:

I guess in a way this phrase describes the true importance of recruitment in an

organization. As the phrase goes, “Human Resource is the most important asset
of a company” it is quite important to select candidates with the required expertise
otherwise they turn out to be more of a ‘liability than an asset to the company.’
But concurring with your point, I believe that rather than a good recruit - a good
recruitment system can make fortunes for the company indeed.

Ques.5What is your recruiting approach? How do you find gifted job applicants?

Answer:

You ensure you hire professionals who have the required skills, experience and
education for the job. You also take into consideration what the company is able to
offer a new employee who is coming on board. Personally you look for candidates
who demonstrate confidence and creativity during the interview process.
(For unique points, refer to the Microsoft Case Study)

To find gifted job candidates, the first step you take is to check the company's job
applicant database when it is time to fill a position. One of your favourite methods
is to go online to look for the right candidates by perusing job candidates' resumes
on job sites.

Ques.6 Could you help us understand, how to ensure the effectiveness of the
training programs that are implemented to enhance the skills of the employees?

Answer:

The programs of ‘Training and development’ – mostly happen at the initial stages.
It is essential to keep an efficient system of both online as well as offline training
to ensure holistic development. The results of these training programs must then be
analyzed to improvise it in subsequent implementations.
I think the only way to ensure its effectiveness is to study the results of the work
performed by the employees who have been a part of these programs. Deviations
from the expected performance must be identified and steps taken in order to
ensure that the subsequent training programs minimize the possibility of such
deviations occurring again.

Ques.7 Could you give us youngsters any insights as to how to implement this
“encouraging work environment” in the company?

Answer:

Implementing an “encouraging work environment” is the job of every HR

Manager. Various approaches can be followed for the same:
Authoritarian approach and Democratic approach are the most common
approaches followed.
However, in my experience I believe that democratic approach i.e. inviting
participation by all the employees in the form of their ideas, views, etc. is the key
to show them that they are valued at this firm. Providing them equal opportunities
to present their creative ideas encourages them to work towards personal and
organizational development.
But, at the same time Authoritarian approach is required at times to ensure order,
discipline and uniformity in the company which is essential for its smooth
functioning.
Thus, combining the two with this perfect balance ensures an encouraging
work environment.

Ques.8I suppose that every HR Manager is held responsible whenever there is an

increase in “Employee Turnover Ratio”. Could you elaborate on the same and
help us understand how to keep this at a minimum with your experience?

Answer:

I believe it is a general norm of pinning the blame on the HR Manager in case the
employee doesn’t perform well. “Firing and hiring” are indeed a part and parcel
of every HR Manager’s role.
I follow quite a simple agenda when it comes to this concept:
Give adequate training for his growth, provide a conducive and encouraging
environment, interact on a personal level to understand the employee’s
predicament and give sufficient chances when he commits mistakes / errors.
Following these steps, in a gist can help us keep the “employee turnover ratio” to a
minimum.

Now after all these steps, it is also our duty to ensure maximum productivity from
that caliber of the employee. However, if even after continuous efforts and
personal interactions – if the company suffers more from him than the gains
derived from him, he becomes a liability to the company and then it comes down
to let him go.

Ques.9 Could you share from your personal experience any one incident that has
helped you become a better HR Manager than from when you started out in this
profession?

Answer: Subjective – Quote an incident.

You believe that you’ve always done justice to the employees & their efforts and
treated all of them without any bias. The key lesson that you’ve learned from this
job is that it is a skill that requires years of experience and only after a period of
time do you excel in this profession. We cannot afford to get hasty at any part of
the job as each step requires a cautious approach to it.
If I had to quote an incident – “I’d say that every time an employee is rewarded,
he performs exceptionally and that is my success.”

Ques.10How do you think HR's role has changed in this quickly evolving world?

Answer:

While it is true that in the past, HR managers primarily performed administrative

tasks, such as handling accounts receivable and payable, distributing payroll and
while many HR professionals still have those responsibilities, their role has
significantly developed into one that can enhance an organization’s competitive
advantage.
I think it says it all when I say that it is employees who build the competitive
advantage and since HR is responsible for the development of employees, they
are the ones who have a major part in leading an organization to its success.
