To remove the SQL command prompt from a Microsoft Word document, you must disconnect

the linked Mail Merge data source and change the file back into a standard document. [1]

Method 1: The Fast Way (Using the Pop-Up)


1. Open your Microsoft Word document.
2. When the SQL command security prompt appears, click No.
3. The document will open instantly without pulling data.
4. Immediately Save (Ctrl + S) and close the file. [1, 2]

Method 2: The Permanent Ribbon Fix (If Already Open)


If you already clicked Yes to open the document, follow these steps inside Word: [1, 2]

1. Click on the Mailings tab in the top menu ribbon.


2. Locate and click the Start Mail Merge button.
3. Select Normal Word Document from the dropdown menu.
4. Save the document to commit the change. [1, 2]

Alternative: Keep the Data, Just Hide the Warning

If you still need the Mail Merge connection active but simply want to suppress the annoying
popup alert, you can disable the warning globally by editing the Windows Registry: [1, 2]

1. Press Windows Key + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.


2. Navigate to your version's Word options folder:
o Office 365 / 2019 / 2016: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\
Options [1, 2, 3]
3. Right-click the Options folder, select New → DWORD (32-bit) Value. [1]
4. Name the new value SQLSecurityCheck. [1]
5. Double-click it and ensure the Value data is set to 0. [1]
