ICE STUDENT CHAPTER
Introduction:
The BRIDGE BUILDING COMPETITION holds significant importance as it
provides a platform for engineers and enthusiasts to delve into the intricacies of
structural design while fostering teamwork and innovation. By challenging
participants to construct scale models using wooden sticks, the competition
promotes practical application of engineering principles and encourages out-of-
the-box thinking. Participants will not only gain hands-on experience but also
have the opportunity to showcase their talents and compete in a dynamic and
engaging environment.
Summary of Event:
Participants will register for the competition and receive detailed guidelines and
rules outlining the design criteria, dimensions, and regulations. The competition
consists of only 1 Round in which Wooden Bridge Participants will construct a
bridge using wooden sticks, evaluated based on:
• Evaluation will be based on load and mass.
• A bridge with a greater ratio of load/mass will be declared the winner.

Rules for Bridge Building
1. Materials Allowed
Only ice cream sticks (popsicle sticks) are allowed.
Adhesives: White glue, hot glue, or epoxy (as specified by the competition).
No additional reinforcements like tape, string, or wire
All teams were given 3 packs of ice cream sticks and 3 UHU’s
If some external material found then entire team will be disqualified immediately
Bridge should be built within the limited resources otherwise no one will be facilitated
further

Respect fellow competitors: Refrain from disturbing or disrupting others during the
competition.
Keep the workspace clean: Maintain a tidy workspace to avoid accidents and ensure
fair competition.
No external assistance: Competitors must work individually and not seek help from
others.
Original designs: All bridge designs must be original and not copied from others.
Safety first: Handle materials and tools with care, and report any accidents or injuries
to the competition organizers.
3. Construction Guidelines
The bridge must be self-supporting and cannot be fixed to the testing platform.
No external supports allowed beyond the bridge itself.
Only adhesive can be used to connect the sticks—no nails, screws, or other fasteners.
4. Testing Procedure
The bridge is placed across the test span.
Weights are gradually added to the center of the bridge until failure occurs.
The maximum weight held before collapse determines the winner.
5. Judging Criteria
Load-bearing capacity: The bridge that holds the most weight wins.
Efficiency ratio: Strength-to-weight ratio (load held divided by bridge weight).
Aesthetics & Design: Some competitions may have additional points for creativity and
neat construction.
Compliance: Bridges not meeting size or material guidelines may be disqualified.
