SECTION – A (1 × 20 = 20 marks)
1. Find the sum of first 20 terms of the AP: 7, 13, 19, …
2. The HCF of 65 and 117 is expressible in the form 65m – 117n. Find one value of (m, n).
3. Find the roots of the quadratic equation: x² – 5x + 6 = 0.
4. A card is drawn at random from a well-shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find the probability of getting a red king.
5. Write the first term and common difference of the AP: 5, 8, 11, 14, …
6. From a group of 2 boys and 2 girls, a student is selected at random. Find the probability of selecting a girl.
7. Evaluate: (2x² + 5x – 3) ÷ (x + 3), find the quotient and remainder.
8. A die is thrown once. Find the probability of getting a multiple of 3.
9. Write the first three terms of the AP whose nth term is 3n + 2.
10. Find the coordinates of the centroid of the triangle whose vertices are (1, 2), (3, –2), (–1, –4).
11. If p(x) = x² – 2x – 8, find p(2).
12. Find the value of k if one root of 2x² + kx + 3 = 0 is –3.
13. A card is drawn from a pack of 52 cards. Find the probability of getting a black queen.
14. Write whether 0.142857142857… is a terminating or non-terminating recurring decimal.
15. The first term of an AP is 2 and the last term is 29. If the sum of all terms is 155, find the number of terms.
16. Find the discriminant of the quadratic equation: 2x² – 3x + 5 = 0.
17. Find the distance between points (–3, 4) and (3, –4).
18. If α and β are the zeroes of 2x² – 5x + 3, find (α + β) and (αβ).
19. Use Euclid’s division lemma to find the HCF of 405 and 252.
20. In a ∆ABC, DE ■ BC intersects AB at D and AC at E. If AD = 2 cm, DB = 4 cm, AE = 3 cm, find EC.
SECTION – B (2 × 5 = 10 marks)
21. Find the roots of x² – 2x – 8 = 0 by factorisation.
22. Two different dice are rolled together. Find the probability of getting: (i) a doublet, (ii) a sum of 7.
23. Solve for x and y: 3x + 2y = 11, 2x – 3y = –4.
24. Write the coordinates of the point which divides the line segment joining A(2, –3) and B(4, 1) in the ratio 3:1
internally.
25. In ∆ABC, a line parallel to BC intersects AB at D and AC at E. If AD/DB = 3/2, find AE/EC.
SECTION – C (3 × 6 = 18 marks)
26. Find the sum of the first 40 positive integers divisible by 6.
27. A motorboat whose speed is 18 km/h in still water takes 1 hour more to go 24 km upstream than to return
downstream to the same spot. Find the speed of the stream.
28. A card is drawn from a pack of 52 cards. Find the probability of getting: (i) a black king, (ii) neither a king nor a
queen, (iii) either a spade or an ace.
29. Find the coordinates of the point P which divides the line segment joining A(–2, 5) and B(3, –7) in the ratio 2:3.
Also, find the length of AP.
30. The 4th term of an AP is 12 and the 8th term is 20. Find the first term and common difference. Also, find the 15th
term.
31. Find the value of k if the quadratic equation kx² + 14x + 8 = 0 has equal roots.
SECTION – D (5 × 4 = 20 marks)
32. Draw the graphs of the following pair of linear equations: 2x + y = 6, x – y = 2. Also, find the coordinates of their
point of intersection.
33. In ∆ABC, DE ■ BC intersects AB at D and AC at E. Prove that AD/DB = AE/EC. Hence, deduce that if two
triangles are equiangular, they are similar.
34. Find the coordinates of the point P on the line segment joining A(1, –2) and B(4, 3) such that AP : PB = 2 : 3. Also,
find the length of AB.
35. Solve the quadratic equation 2x² – 7x + 3 = 0 using the quadratic formula.
SECTION – E (3 × 4 = 12 marks)
36. A card is drawn at random from a well-shuffled pack of 52 cards. (i) Find the probability that the card drawn is
neither a king nor a queen. (ii) Find the probability that the card drawn is a face card. (iii) If two cards are drawn
together, find the probability of getting two black cards.
37. A train covers a distance of 240 km at a uniform speed. If the speed had been 10 km/h more, it would have taken 1
hour less. Find the speed of the train.
38. A man goes 5 km towards east, then 12 km towards north. Find his distance from the starting point using the
distance formula. Also, find the coordinates of the point he reaches if his starting point is (2, 3).
