GUIDELINES IN THE DENTISTS LICENSURE EXAMINATION (DLE)

PRACTICAL PHASE
DAY 1

A. RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY EXAMINATION 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Note: Phantom Heads are allowed only on a supine position. EXAMINEES ARE NOT
ALLOWED TO BRING PERSONAL TYPODONT MODELS.

One (1) Class II Cavity Preparation on a posterior tooth using typodont model and
One (1) Class I Cavity Preparation on one posterior tooth using the typodont model.
Both teeth will remain UNFILLED

B. FIXED PARTIAL DENTURE EXAMINATION 10:00 AM – 12:00 NN

Note: Phantom Heads are allowed only on a supine position. EXAMINEES ARE NOT
ALLOWED TO BRING PERSONAL TYPODONT MODELS.

Preparation of two abutments for the reception of a Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Fixed Partial

Denture.

***Knock down the typodont in between the abutments up to the gingival level.

C. REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE DESIGN EXAMINATION 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Note: EXAMINEES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING THEIR OWN RPD CAST and the use of
RPD stents for designing.

1. Knock down the missing teeth on the master cast to be indicated before the start of
the examination. Round off and smoothen properly the edentulous areas.
2. Using a surveyor, survey the possible abutment teeth. Place tripod marks on the
cast. Make survey lines DEFINITE AND VISIBLE.
3. Survey and design a Bilateral One-Piece Casting Removable Partial Denture
framework on the Master Cast.
4. Preparation of the guiding planes and rest seats.
5. Transfer Design on the top answer sheet (one answer sheet only).
6. Make Laboratory Prescription (Work Authorization) on the top answer sheet (one
answer sheet only).

D. COMPLETE DENTURE EXAMINATION 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

REMINDER: Follow the procedures properly. The use of a MECHANICAL
ARTICULATOR as patient and with the use of a Semi-Adjustable Articulator. To the
examinees who are going to use the semi-adjustable articulator, PRC
will not be liable if there will be any form of damage to the device due to transport.

At the start of the examination, the examinee will be given a set of diagnostic casts
and a set of detached master casts.

Diagnostic Casts
- Determine the proper extent of the trial denture bases and individual trays
- Proper blocking - out of the diagnostic casts depending on the anatomy of the
denture bearing areas.

1. Outline the extent of the Denture Base with Red pencil.

Outline the extent of the Individual Tray with Blue pencil (use broken lines).
2. Block out the diagnostic casts as necessary.

Individual Trays
- Fabricate properly formed and extended maxillary and mandibular individual trays
- Design the individual tray depending on the best suited impression technique as
based on the anatomy of the denture bearing areas.

3. Fabricate maxillary and mandibular individual trays using shellac base plate or
modeling compound or visible light cured (VLC) material.

Detached Master Casts

- Determine the proper extent of the trial denture bases
- Prepare master casts for the fabrication of trial denture bases, evaluation of arch
forms and use it as a guide in setting the artificial teeth

4. Place Denture Base Outline using a pencil.

5. Outline and Shade Post Dam on the maxillary cast BUT DO NOT BEAD.
6. Draw all the lines that will evaluate arch forms and guide in setting the artificial
teeth using indelible pencil.

Trial Denture Bases (using shellac base plate or modeling compound or visible light cured
(VLC) material) and Occlusion Rims
- Fabricate Trial Denture Bases that fit accurately, rigid, stable
- Fabricate occlusion rims with proper length, height and width
- Place the occlusion rim in its proper position utilizing the crest of the ridge as
reference

7. Fabricate record bases using shellac baseplates/ visible light cured (VLC) material,
and occlusion rims using pink waxes.
8. Present finished record bases with occlusion rims to the proctor in order to get the
articulator with mounted master casts.

Provided Articulator with Pre- Mounted Master Casts (represents the patient)
- Establish the Maxillomandibular Relationships
- Establish vertical, horizontal relations
- Record the centric jaw relation

 9. Fit and Adjust record bases and occlusion rims.
***Make sure that the incisal pin is in contact with the incisal table
10. Establish the jaw relationships
11. Record the centric jaw relation
***Do not place markings on the mounted master casts since they represent
the patient’s edentulous arches.

Mounting of Master Casts

***For examinees using a Semi Adjustable Articulator, kindly set the Condylar Guidance
angulations to 30 degrees and Bennett Angles to 15 degrees as applicable on the type of
SAA being used.

12. Seal adjusted record bases with occlusion rims on the detached master casts.
13. Mount the casts in your own articulator.

Setting of the Artificial Teeth

- Demonstrate rationale for tooth selection
- Determine the need to recontour and modify selected teeth to achieve desired
results

14. Proceed to setting of the artificial teeth.

Gingival Wax-up/ Festooning

- Simulate the natural characteristics of the tissue around the teeth in the wax denture

15. Perform Gingival Wax-up/ Festooning

16. Transfer wax dentures on the Articulator with Mounted Casts representing the
patient.
***Make sure wax dentures are unsealed from the master casts before
passing.

Submit the following:

1. Diagnostic casts
2. Individual trays
3. Articulator with pre-mounted master casts
4. The examinees own mounted master casts with the trial wax dentures

NOTE:
1. Examinees shall bring their own disinfectants, Lysol, alcohol 70% Isopropyl and shall
disinfect their own respective area and all materials needed under the supervision of the
proctor.

2. Talking and murmuring are not allowed during the examination.

3. Examinees shall use black ink ballpens for written documents and pencils for the
answer sheets. No other ink colors or writing materials will be permitted.

4. In case of malfunctions of devices, the watchers should be called for assistance.

5. Articulators and hand instruments should not have identifying color or mark.

6. Examinees shall exercise great caution with the use of alcohol as disinfectants since they
are highly flammable and also in the use of torches in the complete denture exercise.

 7. Only Dental Instruments and Dental Materials that will be utilized for the Practical
Examination will be allowed in the work area placed in transparent bags/containers.
Other objects not usually used in the examination will be confiscated. Any examinee
caught cheating in any form, including doing short-cuts, will be automatically disqualified
from taking both the Dental Theoretical and Practical Examinations and shall be
perpetually barred from taking any licensure examination administered by the Professional
Regulation Commission. No marking/name on any instrument, including trays and
articulator, shall be allowed.

8. Examinee shall proceed to their respective school assignments to pay the incidental
expenses on the use of the equipment and dental infirmary, and for orientation on the
conduct of the practical licensure examination.

9. The minimum health standards per DOH Circular No. 0324 (s 2023)1 shall be observed.

IMPORTANT: READ CAREFULLY AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE

PERFORMING ANY EXERCISE. WEAR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE).
PERSONAL BELONGINGS BROUGHT BY AN EXAMINEE SHALL BE FOR HIS/HER
OWN ACCOUNT. THE PRC WILL NOT BE ANSWERABLE FOR ANY SUCH ITEM OR
PERSONAL BELONGING THAT MIGHT BE LOST DURING THE EXAM WITHOUT
FAULT OR NEGLIGENCE ON ITS PART
