Problem Tree Worksheet
The Problem Tree identifies the core problem facing the target population, its
root causes, and its negative effects. It gives the project team and
stakeholders a shared understanding of the situation before designing an
intervention. It is the foundation for the Objectives Tree and the logical
framework.
Key Elements
Element Description
Core Problem The central issue the project aims to address.
Root Causes The underlying factors contributing to the core problem.
Effects The negative results of the core problem on people and
systems.
Project DPro Context
In Project DPro, the Problem Tree is built during Identification and Definition,
typically through a participatory workshop. It feeds directly into the Objectives
Tree and the Logframe.

● Stakeholder inputs and lived experience data
