 Walking the Distance, Understanding the Difference

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Our Community Needs Assessment in Purok 4, Barangay Tagpore

gave me a deeper, clearer understanding of the real situation and struggles
faced by its residents. Through our surveys and interviews, I discovered that
most families here face common challenges: limited access to quality
education, lack of stable livelihood opportunities, and difficulty accessing
basic government and public services. Because Purok 4 is quite far from the
main barangay center and town proper, residents spend extra time, money,
and effort just to travel to school, go to work, or transact important documents.

This experience opened my eyes to the truth that every community—

and even every zone within it—has its own unique set of needs that cannot be
generalized. I realized that before we can propose any solutions or projects,
we must first take the time to listen, observe, and understand the people’s
actual experiences rather than assuming what is best for them. Personally,
this activity helped me overcome my shyness and become more confident in
approaching and talking to different kinds of people. It taught me to respect
individual opinions and value every story shared with us. As a student and
aspiring leader, I learned that my role is not just to study theories inside the
classroom, but to be a responsible and responsive member of society. I
realized that I can contribute by helping identify real community concerns,
raising awareness, and supporting programs that will truly uplift the lives of
the residents here.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

The first major challenge we faced was accessibility. Purok 4 is located

far from the barangay center, so reaching the area requires extra travel time,
physical effort, and patience. Some households were situated in remote or
scattered locations, making it time-consuming to visit everyone. We also

encountered instances where residents were initially hesitant or cautious in
answering our questions, possibly due to unfamiliarity or lack of trust in
outsiders. Another difficulty was ensuring that all respondents clearly
understood the purpose of our assessment and the questions being asked, so
we could gather honest and accurate information. Despite these hurdles, our
group remained united, cooperative, and determined. We worked together to
adjust our schedule, explain our intentions properly, and eventually completed
the assessment successfully.

Learning Insights:

This activity taught me many valuable lessons that go beyond our

lessons in school. First, community development starts with listening and
empathy, not just planning. True progress happens when we involve people
and consider their actual realities rather than imposing

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

This experience helped me realize that a community grows stronger

when people work together and support one another. I learned that every
community faces different challenges, but these can be addressed through
cooperation, understanding, and active participation. Being involved allowed
me to see the importance of listening to community members and recognizing
their needs and concerns.

On a personal level, I discovered that I am capable of contributing to

positive change, even through small actions. I became more confident in
communicating with others, working as part of a team, and taking
responsibility for assigned tasks. This experience showed me that as a
student, I have a valuable role in community development by being proactive,
helping others, and applying what I learn to serve the community.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

-Limited time to accomplish all activities and responsibilities.

-Difficulty coordinating schedules with group members and community

participants.

-Challenges in communicating with some individuals due to different

perspectives and levels of participation.

-Lack of resources and materials needed for certain activities.

Learning Insights:

This experience taught me the importance of teamwork, patience, and

adaptability. I learned that community development is not only about solving
problems but also about building relationships and encouraging people to
work toward common goals. It helped me develop a greater sense of social
responsibility and appreciation for community service. Most importantly, I

 A Reflection on Community Needs Assessment

Amante, Angelito V.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Participating in the Community Needs Assessment (CNA) in Barangay

Tagpore was one of the most meaningful experiences :Through our survey
and interaction with the residents, I gained a deeper understanding of the
realities they face every day. I realized that many families in the community
struggle with limited access to education and employment opportunities.
These challenges greatly affect their quality of life and their ability to provide
for their families.

I also learned that the location of the barangay plays a significant role
in these problems. Since Barangay Tagpore is far from the barangay center
and other urban areas, residents have fewer opportunities to access schools,
jobs, and essential services. This situation made me realize that some
communities face difficulties not because of a lack of effort, but because of
limitations in resources and accessibility.

On a personal level, this experience helped me become more confident

in communicating with different people. Conducting surveys taught me how to
approach community members respectfully, listen attentively, and understand
their concerns. It also strengthened my patience, teamwork, and sense of
responsibility. I learned that community development begins with
understanding people’s needs and being willing to serve others.

As a student and future professional, I realized that I have an important

role in promoting positive change. Even in small ways, I can contribute by
participating in community activities, raising awareness about community
issues, and supporting programs that address the needs of the people.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

During the activity, our group encountered several challenges. One of

the main difficulties was the distance of the community from the barangay

center. Traveling to the area required additional time and effort, especially
when visiting different households for the survey. Some roads were difficult to
access, making data collection more challenging.

Another challenge was communicating with some respondents. There

were instances when residents were not available, while others were hesitant
to participate because they were unsure of the purpose of the survey. We had
to explain our objectives clearly and respectfully to gain their trust and
cooperation.

Despite these difficulties, our group remained committed to completing

the activity. Through teamwork, cooperation, and determination, we were able
to gather the necessary information and accomplish our objectives
successfully.

Learning Insights:

The Community Needs Assessment taught me that understanding a

community’s needs is the foundation of effective community development.
Before creating programs or projects, it is important to listen to the people and
identify the issues that affect them most. This activity helped me understand
that solutions become more effective when they are based on the actual
experiences and needs of community members.

I also learned that education and employment are closely connected.

Without proper education, many individuals struggle to find stable jobs.
Likewise, without employment opportunities, families may find it difficult to
support their children’s education. These challenges create a cycle that can
hinder community growth and development.

Moreover, I realized the importance of empathy and active

participation. By listening to the stories and experiences of the residents, I
developed a greater appreciation for their resilience and determination despite
the hardships they face. This experience inspired me to become more socially
aware and involved in community initiatives.

Overall, the Community Needs Assessment in Barangay Tagpore was

a valuable learning experience that broadened my understanding of

civic responsibility. More than just gathering data, the activity allowed me to
connect with people, understand their struggles, and recognize the
importance of working together to create a better and more inclusive

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Conducting a survey in Barangay, Tagpore was a meaningful

experience for me. Through this activity, I learned more about the situation
and needs of the community. While talking with the residents, I observed that
many families face problems related to medicines, financial difficulties, and
limited access to emergency services. Some people struggle to buy the
medicines they need because of a lack of money. Others are worried about
their financial situation and the expenses of daily living. I also learned that
emergency services are not always easily available, which can be a challenge
during urgent situations.

This experience helped me understand that every community has

different problems that need attention and support. It showed me the
importance of listening to people and understanding their concerns before
making decisions or creating programs for them.

On a personal level, this activity made me more aware of the realities

that many families experience every day. I realized that I should be more
understanding, patient, and willing to help others whenever possible. It also
helped me improve my communication skills because I had to interact with
different people respectfully and confidently.

As a student and a future member of society, I learned that I can

contribute to community development in simple ways, such as participating in
community activities, sharing information, and helping identify problems that
need solutions. Even small actions can make a positive difference when

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Our visit to Brgy. Tagpore opened my eyes to the real challenges faced
by many families in the community. I learned that access to medicine and
healthcare services is one of their major needs. Some residents struggle to
obtain the medicines they need because of limited resources and financial
difficulties. I also discovered that many young people stop studying because
their families cannot afford the expenses related to education. As a result,
they choose to work and help support their families instead of finishing high
school.

This experience made me realize how fortunate I am to have access to

education and basic services. It also taught me the importance of empathy,
understanding, and helping others. As a member of the community, I can
contribute by raising awareness about these issues, participating in outreach
programs, and encouraging others to support initiatives that promote
education and healthcare. Even small actions can make a positive difference
in the lives of others.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

-Lack of access to medicines and healthcare resources in the community.

-Financial difficulties that prevent many students from continuing their

education.

-Limited opportunities and support for youth who wish to finish high school.

-Challenges in addressing community needs due to insufficient resources and

Learning Insights:

This experience taught me that community development requires

cooperation, compassion, and commitment. I learned that poverty affects not

Avila, Rochelle Joy S.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

This experience helped me understand that our community faces

challenges that affect many residents, particularly in healthcare services and
school transportation. Some families struggle to access medical care due to
limited facilities and resources, while students often face difficulties getting to
school safely and on time because of transportation issues. These concerns
showed me the importance of community development in improving people's
lives.

I also learned that I can contribute to positive change by being aware of

community needs and participating in activities that promote development. As
a community member, I have a responsibility to support initiatives, share
ideas, and encourage cooperation among residents. Through collective effort,
even small actions can help address community problems.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

The main problems identified were the limited availability of healthcare

services and the lack of reliable school transportation. These issues affect the
well-being of residents and the education of students. Gathering information
from community members was also challenging because of differing
experiences and perspectives.

Learning Insights:

This experience taught me that community development requires

 Understanding the Needs of Barangay Tagpore

Balomaga, Narciso E.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

This experience revealed that Barangay Tagpore is a community with

strong unity and willingness to help each other, even with limited resources. I
saw that the main needs are not just material things, but also access to
information, health education, and opportunities for livelihood.

About myself, I learned that I can do more than I thought. I used to

think community work was just for teachers or leaders, but I realized that even
small actions from a student volunteer can make residents feel heard and
valued. My role is not to “fix” everything, but to listen, cooperate, and serve
with respect. I’m a bridge between the school and the community.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

-Communication barrier Some residents spoke a local dialect that was hard
for me to understand at first.

-Time management: Balancing the activity schedule with my classwork was

stressful.

-Adjusting expectations I realized not all plans will work as written. Some
activities had to be changed based on what the community actually needed
that day.

Learning Insights:

Listening is more important than talking - Real community needs come out
when you listen first before suggesting solutions.

Respect builds trust - When I showed respect for the community’s time and
culture, people became more open and cooperative.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

This experience revealed that the community of Barangay Tagpore is

resilient, cooperative, and rich in local knowledge despite the challenges it
faces. I observed how community members support one another and work
together to improve their living conditions, which highlighted the importance of
unity and participation in community development.

About myself, I discovered that I can be more empathetic, patient, and

adaptable when interacting with people from different backgrounds. The
experience helped me appreciate the value of listening to community
members and understanding their actual needs rather than making
assumptions.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

Lack of resources and materials needed to fully implement planned

activities. Transportation and accessibility challenges, especially in reaching
certain areas of the barangay. Difficulty gathering complete information due to
limited availability of some residents. Weather conditions that affected the
schedule and conduct of activities. Initial hesitation or lack of participation
from some community members until trust and rapport were established.

Despite these challenges, the experience provided valuable learning

opportunities. It taught me the importance of flexibility, patience, teamwork,
and effective communication in community work. The difficulties encountered
also highlighted the need for proper planning and collaboration with
community members to ensure the success of development initiatives.

Learning Insights:

The experience in Barangay Tagpore provided valuable learning

insights about community life and development. It helped me understand the

 Voicing the Unspoken Needs of the Tagpore's Community.

Baruiz, Rhea Liza C.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Participating in Tagpore, Panabo City's CNA gathering was an amazing

educational opportunity. It provided me with an opportunity to learn about the
needs, difficulties, and aspirations of the community's members. And this
exercise let me see that the community is still strong, cohesive, and motivated
to raise their standard of living despite the challenges. Additionally, this event
improved my patience, empathy, and active listening abilities. Before
providing the inhabitants with solutions, I learned to pay attention to their
experiences and worries. Most importantly, though, I discovered that
community development involves more than just identifying issues; it also
entails collaborating with locals to create significant and long-lasting change.
My feeling of duty has grown because of this experience, and it has inspired
me to participate more actively and sympathetically in community
development initiatives.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

During the actual conduct of the assessment, some residents were

hesitant to participate or share information because of privacy concerns and
uncertainty about how the data would be used. Communication barriers also
arose, as some respondents had different levels of understanding of the
survey questions. Furthermore, time constraints limit the opportunity to
conduct more in-depth interviews with all community members.

Learning Insights:

The Tagpore, Panabo City Community Needs Assessment made clear

to me how crucial community involvement is in determining the true needs
and worries of the locals. Through surveys, observations, and interviews, we
were able to learn more about the community's priorities, strengths, and
issues. For me to create relevant programs and interventions, the assessment
highlighted the importance of data-driven decision-making, teamwork, and

effective communication. It also demonstrated the locals' tenacity,
collaboration, and readiness to support communal growth.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Our Community Needs Assessment in Barangay Tagpore allowed me

to understand more about the problems and needs of the barangay residents.
I learned from the questionnaire that most of them are struggling because
they do not have access to quality education and steady work. Since it is far
from the center of the barangay, most of the residents also experience
hardship in traveling just to avail services, go to school, and even work. This
activity opened my eyes to the fact that every community has its own sets of
needs that should be considered and understood first before finding solutions
to their problems. It also taught me to listen to people and learn from their
experiences. I also became confident in talking to people and interviewing
them. I learned to respect other people by talking to them and understanding

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

This experience revealed to me that a community becomes stronger

when people work together and support one another. I learned that every
individual has a role in helping solve community problems no matter how
small their contribution may seem. It also helped me understand my strength
such as cooperation, responsibility and willing ness to help others. This

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

One problem in the community is transportation. Residents often

experience difficulty traveling because of limited public transportation, high
fare. This can be cause delays in going to school,work, market and medical
appointments.

Learning Insights:

As a member of the community, I realized that I can contribute to

community development by participating in activities, sharing ideas and
encouraging others to get involved.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Through our community service activity and survey, I learned more

about the needs, concerns, and experiences of the people in the community. I
realized that every person's opinion is important because it helps us
understand the situation of the community better. This experience also helped
me become more confident in talking to different people and listening to their
responses.

As a student, I learned that I have a responsibility to participate in

activities that can help improve the community. Even simple actions such as
conducting surveys and gathering information can contribute to community
development and help identify the needs of the people.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

One of the challenges we encountered was approaching respondents

because some were busy and others were hesitant to answer the survey
questions. There were also times when we had to explain the questions
clearly to ensure that the respondents understood them. Despite these
difficulties, we remained patient, respectful, and cooperative throughout the
activity.

Learning Insights:

This community service activity taught me the importance of

communication, teamwork, patience, and responsibility. I learned that listening
to people and understanding their concerns are important steps in helping the
community. Through this experience, I gained confidence, improved my
interpersonal skills, and became more aware of my role as a student in
serving the community. Overall, this activity was a valuable learning

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Our community immersion activity was a valuable experience that

allowed me to better understand the needs and challenges faced by people in
the community. I learned that many residents work hard to provide for their
families despite limited resources and opportunities. Their determination and
cooperation showed me the importance of unity and resilience in overcoming
difficulties.

This experience also helped me discover more about myself. I realized

that I should be more appreciative of the opportunities and resources
available to me. It increased my awareness of social issues and strengthened
my desire to help others. I learned that every individual has a responsibility to
contribute to the improvement of society, no matter how small the effort may
seem.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

One of the challenges we encountered was the limited availability of

facilities and resources within the community. Some residents had difficulty
accessing essential services due to distance and transportation concerns. We
also observed that certain areas lacked proper infrastructure, which affected
the daily lives of the people.

Another challenge was gathering information from community

members because some were busy with their work and household
responsibilities. Despite these difficulties, we were able to communicate
effectively and learn from their experiences.

Learning Insights:

This immersion taught me that community development is not only

about providing assistance but also about understanding the real needs of the

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

My experience in Barangay Tagpore revealed that the community is

composed of hardworking and cooperative residents who are willing to share
their concerns and ideas when given the opportunity. I learned that many
community members have needs and challenges that require attention and
support from both leaders and volunteers.

About myself, I discovered that I am capable of communicating with

different kinds of people and listening to their experiences with patience and
understanding. This activity also increased my confidence in interacting with
residents and conducting surveys.

My role in community development is to help gather information, listen

to the concerns of the people, and support programs that can improve the
quality of life in the community. Even as a student, I can contribute by
participating in community activities and encouraging others to get involved.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

1. Some residents were not available during the survey because they were
working or doing household chores.

2. Communication barriers occurred because some residents had difficulty

understanding certain survey questions.

3. A few residents were hesitant to answer at first because they were

unfamiliar with the survey team.

4. Many residents were not fully aware of the programs and services available
in the barangay.

5. The distance between households and the weather conditions made the
survey process more challenging.

 Beyond Data: Realization from the Community Needs Assessment

Catayas, Jhana Rez S.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

Community development starts with knowing what people really need.

On June 01, 2025, We the IBA students conducted a Community Needs
Assessment Survey to gather data that will guide our future projects. This
experience taught me that numbers are only part of the story beyond data,
there are real challenges, including how distance keeps many unreached.
This paper reflects on what I learned about the community, myself, and the
true meaning of meaningful service.

Through this experience, I realized that a community is more than just

a group of people facing challenges it is a strong, capable, and connected
group with valuable knowledge about its own situation. The survey helped me
understand that their needs are unique and shaped by their everyday
experiences, and that the best way to identify these needs is by listening
directly rather than making assumptions. I learned that communities already
possess resilience and local solutions, and our role is to support and
strengthen what they already have. This experience also made me more

The problems/difficulties that we encounter in the community is some

people don’t get the help they need since they live in distant areas and their
transportation also is difficult since their barangay is far from the City. During
our conducting there are some senior citizens are not part of seniors
beneficiaries.

Learning Insights:

Through this community extension activity, I learned that effective

programs must be based on the community’s actual needs, not just
assumptions. I realized that distance and location are major barriers, as many
people cannot receive help simply because they live far away. I also saw that

learned that many residents are struggling with limited access to education
and employment opportunities. I also discovered that the barangay’s distance
from the town center makes it more difficult for residents to access essential
services, jobs, and educational institutions.

This experience helped me realize that community problems are often

interconnected. The lack of education can affect employment opportunities,
while limited employment can contribute to poverty and reduce access to
quality education. Understanding these challenges allowed me to appreciate

Personally, this activity helped me understand the importance of

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and

I learned from this experience that the people living in Brgy. Due to
their remote location from the main city center, Tagpore faces particular
challenges on a daily basis. Even though the area was remote and the roads
were difficult to navigate, I was delighted to see how welcoming, considerate,
and supportive the locals were. They graciously invited us into their homes
and opened up to us about their feelings and circumstances. It taught me that
if we really want to help, the first and most crucial step is to connect with the
community.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

I also realized how crucial it is to collaborate effectively with my group

members during the exercise. Along the way, we encountered a few
difficulties, such as the lengthy journey and the intense heat while walking
from one house to another. Additionally, there were instances where residents
were initially reluctant to respond to our inquiries. However, we were able to
complete all of the interviews and gather the necessary data by supporting
one another, taking turns, and politely and clearly outlining our goals.

Learning Insights:

This exercise taught me a lot. I now realize that community

Our visit to Barangay Tagpore was a meaningful and eye-opening

are often overlooked. Through this immersion, I realized that despite the rapid
development and modernization happening in many places, there are still
communities that struggle with limited access to basic services such as
education, healthcare, transportation, electricity, and internet connectivity. This
experience also revealed something about myself. I realized that I have often
taken for granted the conveniences and services available in my own
community. Seeing the living conditions and daily struggles of the residents
made me more grateful and aware of the privileges that many of us enjoy. It
taught me the importance of empathy, understanding, and social

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

One of the challenges we encountered even before arriving in the

barangay was the difficulty of transportation. Due to the limited number of
available vehicles and the high transportation costs, reaching the area was
already a challenge. Upon arriving, we learned that Purok 6 is located far from
stores, schools, and the barangay health center, making it difficult for
residents to access essential services.

Another major concern in the area is the unstable internet connection

and limited access to electricity. In today's digital age, where people rely
heavily on technology and online communication, these limitations create
barriers to education, information, and opportunities for growth and
development.

About the Community

This experience opened my eyes to the true spirit of our community

coordination—what stands out most is the people’s resilience, warmth, and
strong sense of unity. I realized that the community is not just a group of
people living in the same place; it is a network of families, neighbors, and

very little. I also learned that local knowledge and traditions are valuable
strengths that often hold the key to solving our own problems.

About Myself:

Before this, I thought community development was mainly about giving

them. This creates fear and uncertainty because they do not know if they will

I also realized that many people in the community need support and

need to be more aware of the struggles of others and be willing to help in

Going to Barangay Tagpore to conduct a survey revealed that residents are

welcoming and willing to share, but many feel their concerns aren’t heard. I
realized the community has a strong bayanihan spirit yet lacks organized
channels for youth and volunteers to participate. About myself, I learned I’m
more confident talking to people and explaining survey questions than I
thought. My role in community development is to be a listener and connector
to help gather honest feedback from residents, then make sure those voices
reach leaders, so programs match what barangay Tagpore needs.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

1. Language and trust barrier: Some residents in Barangay Tagpore were shy
to answer at first because they thought we were outsiders checking on them.
We had to introduce ourselves properly and speak Bisaya to make them
comfortable before they opened.

2. Different understanding of “community problems” Residents would share

personal issues like “no money for medicine” but had trouble linking it to the
survey categories like “Health” or “Support Services”. We had to give
examples so they could match their real experience to the right box.

3. Limited awareness of services: People knew about basic health and

education issues but didn’t know barangay Tagpore could request programs
like Youth Programs, Meal Programs, or Life Skills training through
Community Action surveys.

Learning Insights:

1. Listening > Surveying: I learned that community development starts with

listening first, then writing answers. When we sat and talked with residents in
Tagpore instead of rushing through the form, they shared deeper problems

like “no one teaches us how to join barangay meetings.” The survey is just a

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and

As a working student, living in a community that has all the resources. I

must say that the experience while interviewing some of the residents living in
that area is very pitiful. They don't have the capacity to go to school, far from
the hospital and even their houses are made of nipas. I am not born in a silver
platter treatment, but their state of living is very poor.

There is one family that has 9 children, she only attained grade 4 in
school and some of their children has their own family too. Due to lack of
community services, training and teaching, people in their area don’t know
about that.

As for me, I must say that I still have to be thankful of what I have right
now. Because we can do what others cannot do.

Our community survey in Tagpore, Panabo City, Davao del Norte was a

its residents. As students, we visited different households and asked residents
questions from our survey papers. Through this activity, I learned that people
have different experiences, opinions, and challenges in life. Some shared
their struggles with finances, education, health, and daily living. Listening to
their responses helped me understand that each household faces different
situations and concerns that affect their lives.

This experience helped me understand that every community has its

own strengths and problems. It taught me that listening to people is important
because it helps us understand their needs and concerns better. I realized
that community development is not only about improving places but also
about helping the people who live there. By listening to their stories and

households, but we only found 18 houses in the area. Because of this, we
were unable to reach the expected number of households. Despite this
challenge, we still gathered the necessary information from the available
residents and completed our task as best as we could.

respectful, and cooperative. We worked together as a team and did our best
to complete the survey successfully.

Learning Insights:

This activity taught me the importance of communication, teamwork,

and community involvement. I learned that every person has a unique story
and experience that can help us understand the community better. It also
helped me improve my confidence and social skills when interacting with
different people.

I realized that conducting surveys is important because it allows

community members to share their concerns and experiences. Through this
experience, I learned to be more understanding, responsible, and open-
minded. Most importantly, I learned that even small efforts, such as listening
to people and gathering information, can contribute to positive change in the
community. This experience encouraged me to become more active in
community activities and to continue helping others whenever I can.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

This experience in the barangays opened my eyes to the real struggle

of remote communities. The community is clearly being left behind; they are
part of the municipality and vote, yet they receive almost none of the
government's basic services and opportunities. For myself, I've learned that
we cannot turn a blind eye to these realities. Our role is to be a voice for those
who feel ignored by the system and to become more proactive. I also feel
much more thankful for what I have, as it's clear not every community gets the
same benefits.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

The main difficulties the community faces are a lack of jobs, poor
housing conditions, and a total absence of crucial community programs like
feeding initiatives or bigay trabaho. Most critically, people are not getting their
government benefits, such as seniors not receiving their small pensions.
These problems are all linked to their remote location and being ignored by
higher-level government bodies, making them feel helpless.

Learning Insights:

Our role is to not turn a blind eye to what is happening. We should be a

voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and be more proactive. The
people are left behind and cannot do anything because the government is
ignoring them.

What matters most is how you speak up for your community. What I
learned from these interviews and from this subject is that we must be
proactive and thankful for what we have. Not all communities get the same
benefits and opportunities. It takes effort and responsibility to take action on
what is happening around us.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

My experience in community service in Brgy Tagpore revealed that the

community has a simple life. Houses are far from each other and it’s a quiet
place far from the city. But their main problems are transportation to go to
work, hospital, and market, and the need for free education. I realized I take
things for granted like nearby schools and rides.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

Transportation was the biggest problem. The place is remote so few

vehicles pass by. It’s hard for people to go to work, reach the hospital during
emergencies, and buy things at the market. families struggle because some
parents have no work but still want their children to study.

Learning Insights:

I learned that simple life doesn’t mean easy life. Distance and lack of
transportation affect everything - work, health, and education. I also learned
that community development starts with understanding their real needs. For
me, helping means respecting their way of life.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

I surveyed residents in Purok 4, Barangay Tagpore. At the start, I was

unsure how to start conversations or ask questions properly. I worried people
might ignore or refuse me. But once I smiled, greeted them respectfully, and
explained clearly why we were doing the survey, most became friendly and
willing to share. I found out that they face problems like lack of jobs, low pay,
no nearby college, and high transport costs. Talking to people improved my
communication and confidence.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

Some records sometimes didn’t match on what i saw, some people

gave different answers because of their concerns about government aid.
Many students did surveys at the same time, so it was hard to find people free
to answer. Also Emotional Challenge, seeing the real difficulties and poverty
some families face was heartbreaking. It was hard not to feel helpless or sad
when I saw situations I could not fix immediately.

Learning Insights:

This improved my observation, communication, and understanding that

each community has its own struggles. Listening and gathering facts help find
solutions. Teamwork with classmates made our work easier and successful.
This activity made me more confident, responsible, and aware of community
needs.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

This experience allowed me to better understand the realities faced by

our community. One of the major concerns is the lack of an emergency fund,
which makes it difficult for families to respond to unexpected situations such
as illnesses, natural disasters, or other urgent needs. Another challenge is
that our community is located far from the city, limiting access to essential
services, employment opportunities, and government assistance. These
situations highlighted the importance of preparedness and the need for
sustainable community support systems.

Through this experience, I became more aware of the struggles and

strengths of the people in our community. I learned the value of empathy,
cooperation, and active participation in addressing local concerns. As a
member of the community, I realized that I can contribute by supporting
community programs, sharing useful information, and encouraging others to
work together for the common good.

What did this experience reveal to you about the community, yourself, and
your role in community development?

This experience showed me that communities are more than just

groups of people living together they hold deep resilience, shared values, and
untapped potential. While there are visible challenges like limited resources or
lack of access to basic services, I also saw strong unity and willingness to
work together for change. Many members have valuable skills and local
knowledge that are often overlooked, and their genuine desire to improve their
lives is the true foundation of progress. I realized I had many assumptions
before this experience I thought development mostly came from external help.
Instead, I learned that listening is far more important than giving advice. I
understand now that my role is not to "solve everything" for the community,
but to be a partner, facilitator, and advocate. I learned that sustainable change
happens when community members lead the way, and my job is to support,
empower, and amplify their voices rather than impose ideas. I also realized
that even small, consistent efforts like sharing knowledge or helping organize
activities can contribute meaningfully to long-term growth.

Problems/Difficulties Encountered:

Some community members were initially cautious or uncooperative,

possibly due to past negative experiences or lack of trust in outsiders. Time
and schedule constraints Balancing personal responsibilities with community
