Research Questions
RQ1: What are the levels of speaking anxiety among university students in English classes?
RQ2: To what extent does speaking anxiety influence students' oral performance in English
classes?
Participants
20 university students who are learning English.
Instrument
A questionnaire with 8 Likert-scale items (1 = Strongly disagree to 5 = Strongly agree) and 1
open-ended question.
Data Collection
The questionnaire will be distributed to 20 students and completed anonymously in about 10–15
minutes.
Data
Quantitative data from the Likert-scale items and qualitative data from the open-ended question.
Analysis Method
 For RQ1: Descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, and mean scores) to determine
students' levels of speaking anxiety.
 For RQ2: Descriptive statistics (mean scores) on the Likert items related to perceived
impact, combined with thematic analysis of the open-ended responses to identify common
patterns in how anxiety affects students' oral performance.
Expected Outcome
The study is expected to reveal the general level of speaking anxiety among students and provide
insight into how this anxiety influences their oral performance, which can inform suggestions for
reducing anxiety in speaking classes.
