PAKISTAN PENAL CODE

CH # 1
INTRODUCTION
The Pakistan Penal Code usually called PPC is the Principal penal law of Pakistan that defines
offences and prescribe punishments for them. PPC is a substantive law. It was originally drafted
by Lord Macaulay with a great consultation in 1860 on the behalf of the Government of British
India as the Indian Penal Code. It was adopted by Pakistan after independence in 1947 and has
since been amended to align with national needs and Islamic law. Presently, the Pakistan Penal
Code is still in effect and can be amended by the Senate of Pakistan.

Relevant Sections:
Section 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5
1. Title and extent
 This Act shall be called the Pakistan Penal Code
 It shall take effect throughout Pakistan
2. Punishment of offences committed within Pakistan
Every person shall be liable to punishment under this Code for,
 Any act
 Any omission
If committed within Pakistan and contrary to this code.
3. Punishment of offences committed beyond, but which by law may be tried within
If a person is liable under any Pakistani law to be tried in Pakistan for an offence committed
outside Pakistan. That person shall be dealt according to the provisions of this code in the same
manner as if the act had been committed within Pakistan.
4. Extension of Code to extra-territorial offences. (Extra-territorial application)
The provisions of this Code apply also to any offence committed by:-
 Any citizen of Pakistan or
 Any person in the service of Pakistan in any place
 Any person on any ship or aircraft registered in Pakistan wherever it may be.
Explanation: In this section the word "offence" includes every act committed outside Pakistan
which, if committed in Pakistan, would be punishable under this Code.
Example: A foreigner who is in the service of Pakistan commits a murder in London. He may be
tried in Pakistan
5. Certain laws not to be affected by this Act.
Nothing in this Act is intended to repeal, vary, suspend or affect any of the provisions of any Act
for punishing mutiny and desertion of officers, soldiers, sailors or airmen in the service of the
State or of any special or local law.
