NAME OF STUDENT:
SUBJECT
GRADE
PROJECT
STAGE 1: Problem identification
a. Problem identification
Many learners have limited understanding of the human heart, its structure and how it function to
circulate blood. Without this knowledge students struggle to understand the cardiovascular system
and related health issues like heart diseases and hypertension.
b. Statement of intent
The intention of this project is to investigate the structure of the human heart, explain its functions
and demonstrates how it contributes to circulation and overall health.
c. Main theme
Understanding the anatomy and physiology of the heart and its role in transporting oxygen, nutrients
and waste products in the body.
d. Design specifications
The project will describe the main parts of heart.
It will explain the function of each part.
It will describe the pathway of blood circulation.
It will use diagrams and simple language suitable for O level learners.
The project will follow the six-stage format strictly.
STAGE 2: Investigation of related ideas
The human heart is a muscular organ located in the chest cavity. It pumps blood to the lungs for
oxygenation and them to the rest of the body to oxygen and nutrients.
Analysis
Structure of the heart: the heart has four chambers - two atria and two ventricles.
Right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body.
Right ventricle pumps to the lungs for oxygenation.
Left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs.
Left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood to the whole body.
Valves: the heart has valves (tricuspid, biscuspid/ mitral, pulmonary and aortic) that prevents
backflow of blood.
Major blood vessels
Aorta: carries oxygenated blood to the body.
Vena cava: returns deoxygenated blood to the heart.
Pulmonary artery: carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
Pulmonary veins: returns oxygenated blood to the heart.
Solutions
Using models, diagrams and experiments (like pulse measurements) to teach students heart
structure and function.
Explain circulation and health implications to improve understanding.
Merits
Enhances comprehensive of human physiolog.
Supports learning in related topics like circulation, respiration and health.
Hepls in understanding causes and prevention of heart diseases.
Demarits
Complex anatomy may be difficult for some learners to visualize.
Requires resources like diagrams, models or multi-media for effective teaching.
STAGE 3: GENERATION OF IDEAS
Ways to teach and understand heart structure and functions.
Ways of solving the problem.
1. Using labeled diagrams of the heart.
2. Practical experiments for example mesuring pulse rate at and after exercise.
3. 3D models or virtual simulations of the heart.
4. Classroom discussions and heart diseases.
5. Observation of heart rate changes due to physical activity
Analysis of ideas
Diagrams and models help learners visualize heart structure. Experiments reinforce theoretical
knowledge. Discussions provide context for health and diseases. Observing heart rate changes helps
learners connect structure to function.
Merits
Encourages active and practical learning.
Builds deeper understanding of the cardiovascular system.
Links theoretical knowledge to everyday life.
Demerits
Some experiments require supervison and resources.
Virtual simulations may not be accessible in all schools.
STAGE 4:Refinement of chosen ideas
The most effective method is combining diagram ,3D models and practical exercises like measuring
pulse rate. This approach ensures learners understand heart structure, blood flow and it’s role in
maintaining life.
STAGE 5: PRESENTATION OF FINAL SOLUTION.
