Technological advancements have significantly transformed the way people interact with

each other. This is because digital platforms and instant messaging apps allow individuals to
connect across long distances in real-time, reducing the reliance on traditional face-to-face
communication. Consequently, physical boundaries no longer restrict personal or professional
relationships. For instance, many global companies now conduct meetings entirely via
software like Zoom, enabling employees from different continents to collaborate seamlessly
without traveling.

Incorporating practical skills into the school curriculum is crucial for preparing students for
the modern job market. While theoretical knowledge provides a strong academic foundation,
it often fails to equip learners with the hands-on experience that employers actively seek. By
focusing on vocational training, schools can bridge the gap between academic education and
real-world employment needs. For example, schools in Germany that offer apprenticeship
programs alongside regular classes report significantly higher graduate employment rates
compared to countries that focus solely on textbooks.

Implementing strict government regulations on single-use plastics is one of the most

effective ways to combat environmental pollution. When authorities impose bans or high
taxes on plastic packaging, it forces both manufacturers and consumers to seek eco-friendly
alternatives. This shift directly decreases the amount of non-biodegradable waste that ends
up in landfills and oceans. A clear example of this is seen in the UK, where the introduction of
a small charge for plastic carrier bags led to a dramatic 80% drop in their usage nationwide.

The widespread availability and low cost of fast food have contributed significantly to the
global rise in obesity rates. Modern, busy lifestyles often leave individuals with little time to
cook nutritious meals, making cheap and convenient fast-food options highly appealing.
Unfortunately, these processed foods are typically dense in calories, unhealthy fats, and
sugars, which leads to rapid weight gain when consumed regularly. Studies in the United
States have shown a direct correlation between the high density of fast-food outlets in low-
income neighborhoods and the elevated rates of obesity among local residents.

Allowing employees to work from home offers a substantial boost to both job satisfaction and
productivity. By eliminating the daily commute, workers save considerable time and energy,
which reduces stress and allows for a better balance between professional and personal
responsibilities. When staff feel trusted and comfortable in their home environment, they are
often more motivated to complete their tasks efficiently. A recent survey conducted by a
major tech firm revealed that its remote staff reported a 20% increase in output compared to
when they worked full-time in a traditional office.

Mass tourism can lead to the erosion of traditional cultures and local customs in popular
destinations. As areas adapt to accommodate a massive influx of international visitors, local
businesses often prioritize global commercial trends over heritage to maximize profits. Over
time, this commercialization can dilute authentic practices, rendering indigenous traditions
little more than entertainment for foreigners. In places like Venice, historic residential
neighborhoods have gradually been converted into souvenir shops and tourist rentals, driving
away the native population and their traditional way of life.

Focusing on prison rehabilitation rather than harsh punishment is far more effective at
reducing reoffending rates. When inmates are provided with education, psychological
counseling, and job training while serving their sentences, they are equipped with the skills
necessary to reintegrate into society legally. Without this support, many former convicts
struggle to find employment and ultimately resort to crime out of financial desperation. This
approach is highly successful in Norway, where the focus on rehabilitation has resulted in a
recidivism rate of only 20%, one of the lowest in the world.

Governments should prioritize funding for public transportation systems over expanding
roads for private vehicles. Investing in efficient trains and buses encourages more citizens to
leave their cars at home, which directly mitigates traffic congestion and lowers carbon
emissions in urban areas. This approach not only addresses environmental concerns but also
provides affordable transit options for lower-income citizens. The city of Tokyo, for instance,
boasts an extensive and highly punctual subway network, which allows millions of commuters
to travel daily without causing gridlock on the city's streets.

The global dominance of a few major languages threatens the survival of minority languages
and cultural diversity. As international business, media, and education increasingly rely on
English or Spanish, younger generations face immense pressure to abandon their native
dialects in favor of these global languages. When a language dies out, the unique cultural
knowledge, oral histories, and unique worldviews embedded within it are lost forever.
According to UNESCO, hundreds of indigenous languages in Australia and South America are
currently endangered because younger populations are shifting exclusively to global
languages for better economic opportunities.

Exercise - 1
1. Advertising (Topic: Advertising Aimed at Children)
 Topic Sentence: Advertising aimed at children should be strictly regulated by
governments.
 Explanation: Young children lack the critical thinking skills needed to distinguish between
entertainment and commercial persuasion, making them highly vulnerable to
manipulation. Consequently, they often pressure their parents into purchasing unhealthy
snacks or expensive toys, leading to family financial stress and poor lifestyle choices.
 Student Task: Write an example showing a specific country that banned toy/junk food
ads, or a common situation where children demand a product they saw on TV.
2. Sports & Exercise (Topic: Benefits of Team Sports)
 Topic Sentence: Participating in team sports provides young people with essential life
skills beyond physical fitness.
 Explanation: When individuals work together toward a shared goal on the field, they
learn the value of cooperation, effective communication, and mutual support. These
collaborative experiences help develop emotional intelligence and leadership qualities that
are highly beneficial in future academic and professional settings.
 Student Task: Write an example about a specific sport (like football or basketball) or a
study showing how youth athletes develop better workplace skills.
3. Family & Society (Topic: The Decline of the Extended Family)
 Topic Sentence: The shift from extended families to nuclear family structures has
increased the financial and emotional burden on parents.
 Explanation: In modern society, many young couples live far away from their relatives,
meaning they can no longer rely on traditional family networks for daily childcare and
emotional support. As a result, parents often experience higher stress levels and are
forced to spend a significant portion of their income on professional childcare services.
 Student Task: Write an example comparing modern parents who pay for daycare to
previous generations, or mention a country where this shift is very common.
4. Art & Culture (Topic: Government Funding for Museums)
 Topic Sentence: Allocating public funds to museums and art galleries is essential for
preserving a nation's cultural identity.
 Explanation: These cultural institutions serve as caretakers of a country's history,
creativity, and heritage, making education accessible to people from all socioeconomic
backgrounds. Without financial support from the state, many historic artifacts would be
sold to private collectors or deteriorate due to a lack of maintenance.
 Student Task: Write an example of a famous museum that is free to the public due to
government funding, and how it helps students or tourists learn.
5. Media & News (Topic: Impact of Negative News)
 Topic Sentence: The constant broadcast of negative news by media outlets can have a
detrimental effect on public mental health.
 Explanation: When television networks and online platforms continuously focus on crime,
natural disasters, and political conflicts, it creates an exaggerated sense of danger and
hopelessness among viewers. This relentless exposure to pessimistic information can
increase daily anxiety levels and reduce overall trust within a community.
 Student Task: Write an example of how people felt during a major global crisis, or a
study linking high screen time on news apps to increased anxiety.

Exercise - 2
1. Environment & Energy (Topic: Renewable Energy)
Topic Sentence: Transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is absolutely
necessary to combat global climate change.
 Student Task 1 (Explanation): Explain why fossil fuels are bad for the climate and how
switching to clean energy (like solar or wind) fixes the problem.
 Student Task 2 (Example): Give an example of a country investing heavily in green
energy, or a specific type of renewable technology being used successfully today.
2. Technology & Work (Topic: Automation and AI)
Topic Sentence: The rapid rise of artificial intelligence and automation poses a significant
threat to traditional employment sectors.
 Student Task 1 (Explanation): Explain how machines or software can replace human
workers (e.g., they are faster, cheaper, don't need breaks) and what happens to the
displaced workers.
 Student Task 2 (Example): Name a specific industry (like manufacturing, customer
service, or retail) where robots or AI systems have already replaced human employees.
3. Global Education (Topic: Studying Abroad)
Topic Sentence: Pursuing a university degree in a foreign country offers students invaluable
opportunities for personal and academic growth.
 Student Task 1 (Explanation): Explain how living alone in a new culture forces a
student to become independent, or why international universities might offer better
resources.
 Student Task 2 (Example): Mention a specific skill a student gains (like fluency in
English) or a well-known international university hub (like the UK or Australia) where
students thrive.
4. Consumerism & Economy (Topic: Online Shopping)
Topic Sentence: The growing popularity of online shopping has had a severely negative
impact on local, independent businesses.
 Student Task 1 (Explanation): Explain why consumers prefer giant e-commerce
websites (convenience, lower prices) and how this deprives small, physical neighborhood
shops of customers.
 Student Task 2 (Example): Talk about what has happened to local bookstores, clothing
boutiques, or high streets in your city or country due to platforms like Amazon.
5. Lifestyle & Health (Topic: Sedentary Office Jobs)
Topic Sentence: Spending long hours sitting at a desk every day poses serious long-term
risks to an individual's physical well-being.
 Student Task 1 (Explanation): Explain what happens to the human body when it lacks
movement for 8 to 10 hours a day (e.g., poor circulation, bad posture, slower metabolism).
 Student Task 2 (Example): Mention a specific health condition that office workers
frequently suffer from (such as chronic back pain or heart disease) according to medical
studies.
