The procedures in this guide do not present the total capabilities of


the Collins FMS. Pilots are encouraged to become familiar with
the FMS through practice and study of the Collins FMS Guides.

NOTE:
Changes made on the DEFAULTS pages remain in effect until they are changed. However, for any
individual flight plan, any of the defaults on the appropriate display page of a flight plan can be
overridden. Overriding the default setting from within a flight plan does not change the settings on the
DEFAULTS page. Changes made on the DEFAULTS pages are applied only when a new flight plan is
created, or one is selected from the PILOTS ROUTES LIST. BOW and FUEL FLOW CORRECTION are
exceptions to this rule.

Runway Update

1. Push the LEGS to show the ACT LEGS page.


2. Push the RWY UPDATE line select key
to update the FMS with the departure runway
threshhold.
Note:
RWY UPDATE prompt shows on the ACT LEGS page only when a departure runway is included
in the flight plan and the aircraft is on the ground. When the position update is complete, the annunciation
COMPLETED shows on the CDU that issued the runway update request.
Intercepting an Airway on Defined Course

Localizer – Based Approach:

a. FMS will auto-tune frequency and course when


30 nm from airport
b. Arm APPR (or B/C) when cleared for approach
and on suitable angle to intercept final approach
course

FMS Based Approach:

a. Can fly approach in database, provided other


requirements are met
b. RWY type – approach terminates at threshold;
APPR will fly through preselected altitude
c. MDA type approach terminates somewhere
other than threshold; APPR will level at altitude
shown on LEGS page (reset MDA if not
appropriate for category). The pilot must select a
vertical mode other than VNAV beyond the FAF
