I. Introduction

This study aims to explore cultural differences and similarities between Baby Boomers (aged 60 and above)
and Generation Z through an interview. By examining daily life, values, education, technology, and
relationships, the paper highlights how traditions and practices have evolved across generations.

III. Discussion of Findings

Daily Life and Family Values


Maria recalled that her daily life as a young person involved household chores such as laundry, cooking, and
helping her siblings. Respect for elders was emphasized, especially through gestures like blessing grandparents
and avoiding raising one’s voice to parents. These values highlight discipline and family-centered living, which
she observed to be less emphasized among many Gen Z youth today.

Education, Work, and Discipline


For her, education was considered the key to a better future. Being educated meant having access to good
work opportunities and stability. She noted that while Baby Boomers valued perseverance and responsibility,
many Gen Z youth tend to be impulsive and sometimes irresponsible, focusing more on immediate desires
rather than long-term consequences.

Technology, Communication, and Relationships


She described life before modern technology as slower but more personal. People interacted face-to-face, and
communication was direct. In contrast, she observed that Gen Z relies heavily on cellphones and gadgets,
often trusting what they see online more than their parents. Courtship in her time required personal visits and
respect for the girl’s family, while today’s youth often express affection through text messages and social
media, bypassing traditional customs of respect.

IV. Cultural Reflection

From the interview, the student learned that while technology and lifestyles have drastically changed, core
values such as respect, responsibility, and faith remain essential. Baby Boomers emphasize discipline and
family respect, while Gen Z tends to prioritize convenience and digital interaction. The reflection shows that
Gen Z can learn from Baby Boomers by balancing modern advancements with timeless values, ensuring that
respect and cultural traditions are not lost.

V. Conclusion

Understanding generational differences helps bridge cultural gaps and fosters mutual respect. By listening to
the experiences of Baby Boomers, Gen Z can appreciate the importance of discipline, respect, and faith while
adapting to modern life. This study underscores the value of cultural continuity across generations.
