Science Task

Measuring is a science process skill that involves determining the dimensions of objects using tools and standard units. Different units such as millimeters, centimeters, and meters are used for very small, small to medium-sized, and large objects respectively. Accurate measurements require the correct measuring tool and appropriate unit for the object being measured.

Lesson: Measuring as a Science Process Skill

What is Measuring?
Measuring is a science process skill used to find out the
length, height, width, or distance of an object. We use
measuring tools, such as a ruler or meter stick, and standard
units of measurement to get accurate results.
Units of Length
Unit Used to Measure Example
Millimeter Thickness of a coin,
Very small objects
(mm) paper clip
Centimeter Small to medium-sized
Pencil, notebook, book
(cm) objects
Meter (m) Large or long objects Door, table, classroom
Examples
 📎 Paper clip → millimeters (mm)
 ✏️Pencil → centimeters (cm)
 📒 Notebook → centimeters (cm)
 🚪 Classroom door → meters (m)
 Eraser → centimeters (cm)

⭐ Key to Remember
 📏 Measuring helps us know the size or length of an
object.
 📐 Use millimeters (mm) for very small objects.
 📏 Use centimeters (cm) for small objects.
 🚪 Use meters (m) for large or long objects.
 ✅ Always use the correct measuring tool and
appropriate unit to get an accurate measurement.
Remember:
Small objects → cm
Very tiny objects → mm
Large objects → m
