CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
The rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized the way physical devices interact
with the digital world. IoT connects sensors, controllers, cloud platforms, and communication
technologies to automate monitoring and control. Environmental monitoring has become
increasingly important due to climate change and rising temperatures. Conventional cooling
methods consume significant energy and often require manual supervision. Mist cooling works on
the principle of evaporative cooling, where fine water droplets absorb heat from the surrounding air
as they evaporate, reducing ambient temperature efficiently. Integrating IoT enables automatic
monitoring of temperature, humidity, soil moisture, and supply voltage using sensors connected to
an ESP32 microcontroller. The ESP32 processes these readings, controls a DC misting pump, and
uploads data to the Blynk Cloud for remote monitoring through a mobile application. The proposed
Automated Mist Cooling System provides both automatic and manual modes, reducing water and
energy consumption while improving reliability. The system is suitable for agriculture, greenhouses,
poultry farms, industrial cooling, warehouses, and outdoor environments.
1.2 Problem Statement
Conventional cooling systems consume high energy and require manual operation. Timer-based
misting systems waste water and cannot adapt to changing environmental conditions. Existing IoT
systems often focus only on monitoring and lack reliable control and manual override. Therefore, an
intelligent, energy-efficient, remotely accessible automated mist cooling system is required.
1.3 Objectives
• Design an IoT-based automated mist cooling system.
• Monitor temperature, humidity, soil moisture and voltage.
• Automatically control the misting pump.
• Enable remote monitoring using Blynk Cloud.
• Reduce water and energy consumption.
• Provide manual override for reliability.
