In 1917, Architectural Students Association was formed (Bombay) (Sir JJ College of Architecture)
The association was joined by many architects and activities progressed with the increasing number.
Association started rethinking the name as the term ‘students’ being inapt for the a body involving
practicing architects. Thus in 1922, it announced the formal inauguration of the rechristened
Association- Bombay Architectural Association
Affiliation with R.I.B.A. (Royal Institute of British Architects) in 1925 led to consideration of further
changes in the existing Constitution and Bye-Laws. Memorandum of Association were;
1. To encourage the study of Architecture,
2. To elevate the standard of Architectural Practice and by mutual support,
3. To promote the interests of Architects throughout India.
