GRADE 9 MATHEMATICS GRADED ASSIGNMENT

COMPLETE SOLUTIONS

Question 1
Question:
A student plans her monthly expenses as follows:
• Activity classes: ₹2400
• Books: ₹600 per month
• Travel: ₹800 per month
Her budget limit is ₹3500 per month.
(a) Calculate her total monthly expense.
(b) She decides to reduce only one category to meet her budget. Which category should she
reduce to make the least percentage reduction? Show calculations.
(c) After adjusting her budget, she saves the remaining amount each month and invests it at 5%
simple interest per annum. Find the total interest earned in 1 year.

Solution
a) Total expense = ₹2400 + ₹600 + ₹800 = ₹3800.
Budget = ₹3500.

b) Excess = ₹300.
Activity reduction = 300/2400 ×100 = 12.5%
Books = 50%
Travel = 37.5%
Therefore, Activity classes should be reduced because it requires the least percentage reduction.

c) New expense = ₹3500.

Savings = ₹0.
Simple Interest = (P×R×T)/100 = ₹0.

Question 2
Question:
An architect designs an isosceles trapezium stage. Parallel sides =12 m and 20 m, height =15 m.
(a) Find area. (b) Cost of flooring for 75% area at ₹120/m². (c) Compare carpet at ₹80/m² with
synthetic mat at ₹65/m² + ₹500 installation.

Solution
Area =240 m².
75% =180 m².
Wood flooring =₹21,600.
Remaining=60 m².
Carpet=₹4,800.
Synthetic mat=₹4,400.
Synthetic mat is cheaper.

Question 3
Question:
Survey of 100 students: Car 20, Bus 30, Bicycle 25, Remaining walk. Find pie chart angles, CO₂
emissions, new emissions after 10 shift from car to bicycle, and percentage reduction.

Solution
Walk=25.
Angles:72°,108°,90°,90°.
Total emissions=18,000 g.
New emissions=12,000 g.
Reduction=33.33%.

Question 4
Question:
A commodity costing ₹2000 increases by 10% per year compounded annually. Find compound
price after 2 years, compare with simple interest and explain.

Solution
Compound amount=₹2420.
Simple amount=₹2400.
Difference=₹20.
Compound growth is greater because interest is earned on previous interest.

Question 5
Question:
20 students use laptops (60W), 15 tablets (30W), 15 desktops (120W), each for 2 hours.
Calculate daily consumption, new consumption if desktops become laptops, and percentage
reduction.

Solution
Original=6900 Wh.
New=5100 Wh.
Reduction=1800 Wh.
Percentage reduction=26.09%.
