GRADE -7th
Activity 1: Visit to a hospital/Primary Health Centre (PHC)/Community
Health Centre (CHC)
It is designed to help you understand how healthcare systems operate, how patients
are treated, and how safety standards are maintained.

Preparation
Before you go, ensure you wear a mask and you have :

• Notebook/sheets and a binder for notes.


• Stationery (pens, pencils).
• First-aid materials (handbook, bandages, cotton swabs, medical tape, masks,
etc.).
What to Observe During Your Visit

Pay close attention to these key areas to gather information for your report:

• Patient Care: How medical staff examine and treat patients.


• Equipment: Use of tools like thermometers, BP machines, and stethoscopes.
• Environment: Cleanliness, safety measures, and waiting areas.
• Administration: How records, billing, and reports are handled.
• Patient Comfort: Availability of fans, beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.

Recording Your Findings

After the visit, you should document the following in your Health Handbook:

1. Facilities available
2. Services provided to patients.
3. Common local illnesses and prevention methods.
4. What to do in an emergency
5. Fees, billing information
6. When to seek medical help versus managing at home.
7. What to do when someone falls sick in the night or on a holiday.

home. Prepare a first aid kit for your home.

• Adhesive tape
• Adhesive bandages (Band-Aids)
• Antiseptic wipes
• Soap
• Hand sanitizer
• Antiseptic solution
• Sharp scissors
• Alcohol wipes or ethyl alcohol
• A thermometer
• Antibacterial creams
• Basic Pain removal spray or creams

Precautions
• Always seek adult help in case of severe injuries.
• Never use medicines without a doctor’s advice.
