EEE 4130 MICROPROCESSORS
ASSIGNMENT I
Due Date: 24th July 2026
NOTE: Late submissions will NOT be graded.
Academic Honesty is expected. Any work handed in must be your own.
1. With the aid of a diagram discuss the flag register outlining the functions of each bit in the
16-bit register.
2. Describe the roles and importance of the A16/S3 to A19/S6 signals in the 8086
microprocessors.
3. Draw and discuss typical minimum mode 8086 microprocessor systems.
4. For each of the following segment and offset address pairs, calculate the corresponding 20-
bit physical address generated by the Intel 8086 microprocessor. Clearly show all
calculations involved in obtaining your answers.
i. Segment Address = 8000H, Offset Address = 1234H
ii. Segment Address = ABCDH, Offset Address = 5678H.
5. Assume that the Intel 8086 microprocessor has the following register contents: BX =
2400H, BP = 3100H, SI = 0020H, and DI = 0040H. Determine the Effective Address (EA)
for each of the following instructions, clearly showing the calculations involved where
applicable:
i. MOV AX, [BX]
ii. MOV AX, [BX+SI]
6. Write an Intel 8086 Assembly Language program to perform the following operations:
store the hexadecimal numbers 25H and 15H in registers AX and BX, respectively; add
the two numbers and store the result in register CX; subtract 05H from the result and store
the final answer in register DX; and finally terminate the program execution. Clearly
comment each instruction in your program.
7. Write an Intel 8086 Assembly Language program that multiplies the decimal numbers 15
and 8, stores the product in the appropriate register(s), and then divides the product by 5.
Store the quotient and the remainder in their respective registers, and state the final contents
of all registers involved after program execution. Clearly comment each instruction in your
program.
